BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB:

  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled work to maintain water wells, chemical feeder equipment, pumps, motors, telemetry sensory equipment, treated water storage facilities, water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances, sanitary sewers for the collection of wastewaters, pumping equipment for water and wastewater, and water and wastewater treatment plant equipment and operations.
  • Performs moderate technical and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities.
  • Conducts all company work related efforts and activities within the rules, regulations, and responsibilities of the most current company safety policy and OHSA regulation.
  • The Operator will respond to operational emergencies as deemed necessary by his/her supervisor. The Operator will also assist customers with concerns of water quality, delivery, odors, vector control and treatment. This position also provides technical and/or physical assistance to other operations personnel, contractors, developers, and any other duties assigned.
  • Additionally, the operator may be subject to on-call work, emergency call back work and subject to shift work that may include nights and weekends.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations by streamlining work processes, decreasing turnaround times, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide efficiency and excellence in the use of Utility resources.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service. Establishes and maintains open communication with all internal and external customers; to include co-workers, contractors, residents, and other Utility departments. Informs immediate supervisor of daily operations, important developments, and work activities.
  • Adheres to industry and Utility safety standards, policies, practices, and procedures. Provides services in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements..
  • Executes routine and emergency operational, maintenance, construction, and repair functions of infrastructure or equipment utilized in the wastewater reclamation division.
  • Operates all equipment used in wastewater reclamation/collection facilities including pumps, motors, sewer cleaning equipment, tank trucks, various tools, disinfection, odor control, and flow regulating devices. Maintains the integrity of landscaping, checks wet wells and electrical panels, adjusts chemical feed rates, and completes work orders.
  • Conducts daily inspections of reclamation/collection facilities; process sampling, logs daily records; interprets readings from meters, gauges, charts, and instruments, and adjusts accordingly; and detects mechanical or process deficiencies and communicates findings to the supervisor.
  • MUST have an ADEQ Grade 1 Wastewater Certificate with the expectation of getting a Grade 2 Wastewater Certification within the next 12 months.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class B CDL Arizona Driver’s License is favorable.
  • Must have a clean driving record with no restrictions.

Education:

  • Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to high school degree or equivalency.

Technical Skills:

  • Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized. Prefer some understanding and knowledge of using SCADA.

Protective Equipment Required

  • Field operations require hardhat, safety vest, steel toe boots and all other identified personal protective equipment (PPE) on an “as needed” basis.
  • Facial hair for operations personnel shall not be allowed at points where the SCBA face piece is designed to contact and seal with the face (i.e. chin and jawline). Sideburns and mustaches will be trimmed and well-groomed as determined by the Operators Manager.
  • This position requires you to drive a company vehicle without any restrictions in order to be covered under our liability policy.

Salary: $21.00/hr to $29.00/hr. D.O.E.
