Scientist / Junior Chemist (trace explosives)
GST, Inc. has an immediate opportunity for one Junior Scientist supportingTrace Standards Production at the Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) inEgg Harbor Township, NJ. This vacancy is in support of an existing contractthat has been awarded to GST by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS)Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate.
Main Responsibilities:
· Preparation, maintenance, and Quality Control (QC) verification of TraceExplosive Standards:
· Preparation of Trace Explosive Standard stocks, ampoules, and dilutedsolutions
· QC analysis of prepared Trace Standards using various analytical instruments(HPLC/LC-MS, IC, and GC).
· Procurement, Preparation, and QC of test substrates.
· Preparation of test articles (deposition of Trace Explosive Standards).
· Calibration, Operation, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting of all systems,instruments and equipment necessary for production of Trace Explosive Standards(HPLC/UPLC, GC, IC, pipettes, balances).
· Support proficiency testing and participate in internal and externalaudits (for ISO 9001, ISO 17025) when requested.
· Track and maintain inventory of consumables.
· Verify calibration of quality affecting items
Other Responsibilities
· Production and Quality Assurance (QA) of explosive simulants (pressed,liquid, solid, and semisolid) including high-fidelity simulants andmulti-technology simulants.

We are an engineering firm and prime contractor for the Department ofHomeland Security. Our core capabilities include systems engineering; R&Din the domains of physics, chemistry, biology, electronics, and software; Testand Evaluation (T&E), Human Factors (HF) engineering, ConfigurationManagement (CM), and Integrated Logistic Support (ILS). We are involved intransportation security and CWMD (Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction)covering all parts of CBRNE . GST is the prime contractor for (among others)the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Professional Engineering andLogistics Support Services (PELSS-2) contract, supporting the fields of baggagescreening, passenger screening, surveillance, air cargo/ intermodal securityand technology integration. Under this contract, we interface with Governmentand international entities, equipment manufacturers, airports, and personnelfrom all modes of transportation. We provide liaison to the R&D community,report on emergent technologies, perform trade off studies, develop systemarchitectures, and produce standards, specifications and requirements. GST alsosupports the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Transportation SecurityLaboratory (TSL) at the W.J. Hughes Technical Center, Atlantic City, NJ.Technical support provided includes Trace Standards Production, SimulantProduction, and Laboratory Certification and Accreditation Support Services. Required Education: · Experience with analytical instrumentation (HPLC, GC-ECD, and IC)preferred, Experience with cGMP and cGLP a plus. · Prior security clearance (Secret) and/or DHS contractorsuitability/fitness a plus. · Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communicationskills and be able to properly write project documents and SOPs with moderatesupervision. · Must be able to work independently and in a team-based environment. · Must demonstrate good attention to detail and ability to followdirections.
