Job Description

GST is actively seeking a JuniorScientist / Physics - Chemistry in support of our Department ofHomeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T)Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) customer working full-time at the FAATechnical Center in the Atlantic City, NJ. The person in this role will performstudies and analyses related to the development of Security technologies.Assists in planning and executesexperiments/tests related to the science of explosives and weapons detection(physics/chemistry), including recording and analysis of data.Contributes to comprehensive technicalreports, data reports and other publications.

Requirements

The objective of this positionis to provide support services required by the DHS to support the productionand quality control of trace standards, formulations, solutions, substrates andtest articles; the production and packaging of in-house and commercialsimulants, and simulant-related test articles. The Junior Scientist willperform production and packaging at the TSL in accordance with establishedsafety procedures and using product specifications and processes establishedand documented at the TSL.

Requirements

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BECONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

Bachelor’s Degree in a science field (i.e. physics, chemistry) and 2 years of experience in experimental or applied science or experimental design and support.
Associates Degree with specific courses in experimental or applied science (i.e. physics, chemistry) and 8 years of experience in experimental or applied science or experimental design and support.
Analyzes, compiles, and reports data collection results forresearch and development and quality control testing events.
Ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance and DHS Suitability.
Proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office Suite products,Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat products.
US Citizen

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BECONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

Master’s Degree in a science field (i.e., physics, chemistry).
Collects and analyzes data using gas chromatography (GC), liquidchromatography with mass spectrometry detection (LCMS), and ion chromatography(IC).
Performs microscopy measurements using stereomicroscope orpolarized light microscope.
Composes and reviews technical reports and standard operatingprocedures.
Composes, reviews, and executes test plans. Performs literaturereviews.
Safely handles hazardous materials.
Sources materials and submits purchase requests.
Develops and uses code (MATLAB, Python, R) for data analysis.
Develops and uses code (Maple, LINUX) for data analysis.
A military background or familiarization, as well as anunderstanding of Explosive / Hazardous Materials subject matter isadvantageous.
