We are currently accepting applications for the role of Shredder Operator at our Recycling facility in San Jose, California.

Responsibility

The Shredder Operator is responsible for reducing the scrap size and sampling for subsequent processing. The incumbent must comply with all federal, state and local health, safety and environmental regulations. The Shredder Operator’s duties include:

• Feeding materials to the shredder or Sentry Sampler with the hydraulic dumper.
• Screening materials for undesireable components.
• Ensuring the required weight in and weight out balances, and the correct sample fraction achieved.
• Ensuring the equipment is completely cleaned after each batch.
• Weighing and tagging materials.
• Performing computer data entry.
• Ensuring the ventilation equipment is operating properly.
• Reporting any unsafe conditions to Sampling Leadman.

 General Skills

The Shredder Operator must have the following general skills:

• Able to follow written and verbal English instructions.
• Operate a forklift safely.
• Maintain a clean work area.
• Perform duties safely with no or minimal fugitive emissions.

Physical Requirements

The Shredder Operator must meet the attached essential functions and the following physical requirements:

• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• Pass pre-placement fitness for work medical examination.
• Pass fitness to wear a respirator medical exam including spirometry.
• Submit to a blood lead and zinc protoporphyrin monitoring.
• Submit to a hearing and eye test.

Personal Protective Equipment

The Shredder Operator must wear the following personal protective equipment: a hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses, gloves, P-100 respirator and hearing protectors.
