Duties:

• Processes specimens for histological examination which may include grossing, embedding, microtomy, and routine staining. 40%
• Processes special stains and Immunohistochemical slides for microscopic analysis. Prepares slides for ancillary testing. 35%
• Performs routine maintenance of histology instrumentation. 5%
• Monitors inventory at work stations and requests supplies needed. 5%
• May coordinates laboratory research projects. 5%
• Resolves discrepancies with minimal oversight and seeks help as needed. 5%
• Medical Lab Tech performs other related duties and training as assigned. 5%
• Medical Lab Tech ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies including CAP.
• Medical Lab Tech adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
• Medical Lab Tech assures accurate specimen labeling and maintains the integrity of specimen records through approved identification procedures.

Qualifications:

• 2 years of experience as a Medical Lab Tech
• The individual must be proficient in all aspects of histology laboratory practice.
• NYS licensed (or able to obtain before starting position) as a Clinical Histology Technician or Clinical Medical Technologist.
