Glacial Lakes Energy is Hiring a Plant Manager Near Watertown, SD

Job Description:

Glacial Lakes Energy (GLE), a corn ethanol industry leader, is looking to fill Plant Manager position in Watertown, SD. Founded in 2001, GLE employs approximately 180 team members between four ethanol facilities located in Watertown, Huron, Aberdeen and Mina, SD.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a strategic, big-picture thinking individual who possesses confidence, initiative, a sense of urgency, and has the ability to make decisions and take responsibility for them. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Plant Manager or a Production Manager ready for the next level.

This job requires strong analytical and technical abilities and demands fast, but carefully thought-out results. Strong leadership and control of the work process from beginning to end is necessary. The job centers around developing new ideas, systems and technology, and also analyzing and improving on old ones. A high level of expertise is expected and the ability to spot and correct errors is important. Work must be done right and quickly, while always focusing on accomplishing the goal and demanding the highest quality work from coworkers and direct reports.

Plant Managers are responsible for all aspects of the ethanol plant operation, including production, maintenance, shipping and receiving and quality control. Responsibilities include plant optimization to ensure maximum production, quantity and quality. The Plant Manager oversees all plant operations and production by working directly with and providing leadership to managers in the following departments: Production, Maintenance, Lab and Grains.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a processing plant environment, with an emphasis on strategic oversight of biological and chemical processes
  • Five (5) or more years’ management experience in an operating processing plant environment
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to learn and use new software applications
  • Must be able to build, maintain and contribute to a team environment
  • Is willing to lead by example and demonstrate servant-leadership
  • Is willing to resolve problems in a respectful manner
  • Individual desires to promote the collective interests of the team more than self-interest
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized; able to work well within all levels of the organization
  • Has technical expertise in functional area
  • Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, the ability to multi-task and work well as a team
  • Good people management skills and overall business managerial skills
  • Good business acumen and global perspective of the industry
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in English

Glacial Lakes Energy, LLC (GLE) was formed in May 2001 by the Glacial Lakes Corn Processors (GLCP) and Glacial Lakes Capital, LLC (GLC), an investment firm located in Brookings, SD.
