Girl Scouts of Western Washington is Hiring an Archery Specialist- Camp River Ranch Near Carnation, WA

Description

This summer, Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) is offering an exciting NEW opportunity to experience summer at beautiful Camp River Ranch, a lakefront property nestled in a rainforest in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, in Carnation. The Archery Specialist position helps develop campers of courage, confidence, and character through nature and the outdoors. 

The Archery Program Specialist will enrich campers’ experience by designing and implementing archery, slingshots and other activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. The Archery Specialist will work closely with the Camp River Ranch Program team to ensure the programming is adequately supported and properly executed. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as the typical schedule for this position will be Wednesday- Sunday. Overnight housing is optional; staff are not required to stay on camp. Meals will not be provided, however, space to cook and store food will be available.

General Responsibilities  

  • Prepare and lead innovative outdoor archery program activities that are engaging, age-appropriate, camp-appropriate and achieve camper development objectives. 
  • Exhibits good judgment and risk management assessment skills. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked program area. 
  • Ensure work/program areas and activities are safe and meet the requirements of the American Camp Association, Local Health Department, Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints and GSWW 
  • Responsible for the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in program areas 
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those assigned. 
  • Responsible for observing camper behavior, assessing its appropriateness, enforcing appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and applying appropriate behavior-management techniques. 
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior. 
  • Encourage respect for others, the environment, and private property. 
  • Prepare for and participate in various aspects of camp life, including songs, nature hikes, campfire, staff training, meetings, clean-up of camp, and camp closing. 
  • Complete paperwork in a timely fashion, including equipment logs and requests, Incident Reports, evaluations, and weekly schedules. 
  • Communicate clearly with supervising staff. 
  • Set a good example by demonstrating maturity, good communication techniques, cleanliness, good hygiene, punctuality, sportsmanship, sharing, and following rules among other traits. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 18
  • High School Diploma/GED 
  • Passion for outdoor programming 
  • Desire and ability to supervise and instruct children of various ages in an outdoor setting 
  • Ability or willingness to obtain GSWW Archery Qualification (offered during staff training) 
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain 
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards
  • Ability to hike 5 miles of uneven terrain, with a 25-pound pack 
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control 
  • Ability to receive instruction and supervision 
  • Exhibit responsible behavior at all times 
  • Desire and willingness to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Exhibits good judgment and risk management assessment skills. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience planning and leading archery and slingshot program activities
  • Previous Girl Scout and/or camp experience 
  • USA Archery Level 1 certification 
  • College coursework preferred
  • Knowledge of Girl Scout programming, awards, and culture preferred
  • Familiarity with the American Camp Association Standards and Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints.
