Head Middle and High School CoEd Bowling Coach
Girard College is looking for candidates for the position of Head Middle and High School Boys' and Girls' Bowling Coach. The applicant must have knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of bowling. He/she must also create a high energy, positive team culture that reflects the mission statement of the school.

Responsibilities
The head coach is responsible for teaching and training Middle and High School students, the game of bowling. The head coach is responsible for leading the development and improvement of the bowling program at Girard College. The head coach is responsible for overseeing the program in the best interest of Girard College students by adhering to the policies and regulations of the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association (P.J.A.A), the Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association (M.P.A.A), the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (P.A.I.S.A.A.), as well as the practices and procedures of the school administration.

  • Be able to recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes for admission to Girard College.
  • Be able to work in an educational environment and maintain a relationship with school administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
  • Be able to address and resolve any issues that arise with a student-athlete, the team and/or a member of the coaching staff.
  • Be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time, and work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Be able to lift at least fifty pounds.
Required Duties
  • Organize, prepare, and conduct open tryouts.
  • Assist in academic monitoring and support for all student-athletes.
  • Determine the system of play to be used.
  • Coordinate an effective in-season and off-season conditioning program.
  • Assist the Athletic Director with scheduling competitions.
  • Discuss the proposed budget for the program for each upcoming season with the Athletic Director and recommend the purchasing of equipment and uniforms.
  • Follow the care plan of the athletic training staff for prevention and care of player injuries and other health-related issues.
  • Maintain current health care certifications. (First Aid, CPR/AED).
  • Project positive coaching behavior during practice, home, and away competitions, and traveling.
  • Develop an effective recruiting system with the Athletic Director that is in line with the admissions guidelines of the school.
  • Provide guidance and support to enhance a student-athlete's welfare regarding his/her academic and athletic experience while at Girard College.
  • Evaluate team and individual performances.
  • Enforce all Girard College policies and procedures.
  • Enforce Athletic Department team travel rules and code of conduct policies when away from Girard College.
  • Ensure that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
  • Ensure that the aim and objectives of the program support those of Girard College and are within established Girard College institutional policies and league rules and regulations.
  • Report all violations of Girard College or league rules to the Athletic Director.
  • Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to the players before the season. Arrange for the systematic return of all uniforms and equipment and hold the athlete responsible for equipment not returned.
  • Cleaning, storage, and care of team equipment.
  • Transport the team to games. Clean and refuel vans as needed.
  • Assist residential services with picking up team dinners when the team returns late from away competitions.
  • Recommend hiring, train, and evaluate assistant coaching staff.
  • Maintain appropriate conduct toward students, officials, and spectators.
  • Exhibits non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Attend staff meetings when called by the Athletic Director.
Qualifications
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree is required with a minimum of three years of head coaching experience on the high school, collegiate, or professional level. The candidate must have completed the NFHS coaching education requirements at the time of hire. The candidate must possess outstanding people skills and a willingness to work with student athletes, administration, faculty, and staff.
Hours
  • In-Season: The season lasts 8 to 10 weeks but could go to 12 weeks if the team makes the playoffs. Coaches are expected to be available for two hours per day, Monday - Friday for practice, and Saturday if necessary. In addition, coaches are required to attend all scheduled home and away games.
  • Off-Season: Coaches are expected to hold workouts during the off season with approval from the Athletic Director.
