Giovanni Rana is Hiring an EHS Specialist Near Bartlett, IL

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The EHS Specialist will foster and promote employee safety and ensure compliance with applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety laws. The job scope currently includes three manufacturing plants.

  • The EHS Specialist interacts with 1000 employees at all levels of the organization and provides training as needed.
  • The EHS Specialist maintains compliance with all environmental permits and standards, including the site's Air Permit, Stormwater, Water, TIER II, TRI Form R, Spill Control and Countermeasures, and Wastewater.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect the facilities to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
  • Draft inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Ensures that safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Manages on-site Safety Committees and provides follow-up action when required.
  • Responsible for all environmental reporting and compliance.
  • Establishes and conducts preventative care, safety, and compliance training programs.
  • Oversees and updates Emergency Action Plan, serves as primary contact for injury and incident notification, performs accident investigation, and provides case management.
  • Maintains OSHA compliance and written log of safety inspection activities reports, submits OSHA 300 log, and handles all safety-related correspondence.
  • Performs emergency response drills and schedules all safety-related training.
  • Lead Risk Assessment activities and ensure corresponding documentation for corrective action is complete and up to date.
  • Champion's Behavior-based Safety program and initiatives. Provides feedback to employees on the effectiveness of observations and corrective actions.
  • Leads management of change and pre-safety start-up review on new equipment.
  • Assists inspection personnel from insurance carriers, OSHA, EPA, Fire Marshall, etc.
  • Oversees purchasing and distribution of all personal protective equipment and first aid supplies.
  • Oversees inspections of fire extinguishers, eye-wash stations, exit lights and forklifts.
  • Assists HR with the administration of the Worker's Compensation program and works closely with HR to oversee return to work and light duty programs.
  • Recommends and budget for safety capital expenditure items and annual safety budget.
  • Recommends improvements in processes, management systems, procedures, and operating equipment to comply with safety and environmental requirements.
  • Conducts job safety analysis, job hazard analysis, and risk assessments on assigned tasks and jobs.
  • Executes proper management of the sites' hazardous waste activities to ensure 100% compliance with federal, state, local and company regulations and standards.
  • Creates, coordinates, and conducts safety training programs by planning and scheduling training sessions and consulting specialists when necessary.
  • Recommends necessary changes to safety processes, including safety rules, practices, and training and personal protective equipment programs.
  • Serves as the "Driving Force" behind safety initiatives, keeping plant management and line supervisory team aware of ongoing efforts.
  • Facilitates the two Safety Committees, ensures completion of minutes and action items; and ensure management support of Safety Committee efforts.
  • Partners with Plant Managers and Human Resources regarding accountability and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.
  • Leads and delivers New Employee Safety Training
  • Accountable for the execution of all sites' Environmental Permit Compliance, including the sites' air permit, Stormwater, Water, TIER 11, TRI Form R, Spill Control, and Wastewater.
  • Responsible for all ammonia-related compliance, including annual SOP review, Risk Management Plan (RMP), Management of Change (MOC), and Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • The Asst. The EHS Manager will also administer first aid when required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry) safety standards and EPA regulations and policies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to work with minimum supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to inspire, persuade, and coach at all levels of an organization.
    • Must have the tact, and motivational managerial skills to achieve desired results through a manage-by-influence model where direct lines of authority do not exist.
    • Must have proficiency in lecture, hands-on, and guided discussion methods in a variety of classroom and field environments.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, including a high level of comfort in developing and delivering training and motivational presentations to all levels of employees.
  • Must have a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in an EHS-related field and at least five years of experience, including training and experience in a manufacturing environment, is required.
  • Fluency in Spanish is required.
  • Experience in food manufacturing and GMPs is highly preferred.
  • Experience with hazard recognition, behavioral-based safety, job hazard analysis, and Process Hazards Analysis highly preferred.
  • BS/BA in safety management is preferred.
  • Experience with ammonia and glycol cooling systems is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Prolonged periods of walking, climbing stairs.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
