GILA RIVER INDIAN COMMUNITY is Hiring a Family Resource Specialist Near Sacaton, AZ

The Family Resource Specialist is a vital component in the overall Family Preservation/Family Support efforts. This position works cooperatively and collaboratively with the Parenting Skills Training program staff to provide in-home services for parents that focus on enhancing family functioning, promoting positive parent/child interaction, and encouraging self-sufficiency in homemaking. The Family Resources Specialist provides in-home services that are interactive and presented in a caring, sharing and respectful (Traditional) way that is modeled in the O’odham Himdag (the Way of the People).

· Provide in-home services to families referred for support or preservation services, which includes modeling appropriate child rearing, homemaking, family interaction styles, and standards; Assess family strengths to construct a service plan with the family that will address all factors of the referral.

· Assist family in acquiring the knowledge, skills and abilities to promote self-sufficiency and independent living; provide emotional support and encouragement, while demonstrating and teaching childcare, child rearing, and practical application of housekeeping and homemaking.

· Provide transportation for children and/or families for visitations, court hearings, intakes, substance use testing, parenting education training, and placement.

· Coordinate services with other providers (e.g. Family Counselors, Parenting, WIC, Public Health, etc.) to ensure the family’s needs are correctly identified and a continuum of services are in place.

· Maintain all required documentation of services provided which includes compiling and submitting monthly reports in a timely manner; attend and participate in staff meetings and monthly case staffing which includes providing updates and input for measures of behavioral changes for families.

· Provide support for various program within Tribal Social Services, which includes Foster Care Program, Nurturing Parenting Education Training Program, and Family to Wellness Court Program, family prevention for in-home dependencies, Residential Programs for Youth, and the Kinship Care Program.

· Assist in submitting Social Security Card applications and assisting parents in the process of establishing paternity; assist in delivering needed food boxes, clothing, beds, and hygiene items to families.

· Participate in the planning and presentation of the Child Abuse Prevention Month as well as other events prevention by Tribal Social Services (i.e. Christmas and Cultural Day events).

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

· Knowledge and ability to relate Pima and Maricopa history, traditions and culture as it relates to child rearing, family and community.

· Knowledge and ability to relate information on child growth, child development, and competence to provide guidance in childcare rearing.

· Knowledge and ability to demonstrate practical application of good housekeeping and homemaking skills.

· Ability to research new local resources, and keep up to date on new training for learning skills that apply to the job field that would best serve the families of the Community.

· Ability to be patient, consistent, and nurturing in educating parents in homemaking skills.

· Ability to solve problems and be a good listener.

· Ability to maintain professionalism and a strict standard of confidentiality.

· Ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date service documentation and client files.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the public.

· Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.

· Associate degree or sixty (60) college credits from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education, Social Services, or a closely related field and one (1) year experience in family case management, behavioral health, or social services; OR

· Three (3) years’ experience in family case management, behavioral health, or social services.

· Required to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must continue to maintain throughout duration of employment.

· Background checks are required for positions that involve regular contact with or control over Community Children in accordance with The Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 U.S.C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63 and positions that have regular contact with the Elderly.

· Maintain current CPR & First Aid Certification or must obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.

· Required to obtain a Tribal Operator’s permit. Valid state driver’s license with proof of driving record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the application

· Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205), B.

· Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training on a yearly basis.
