Due to the responsibilities of this position, this role requires 100% onsite presence on Georgia Tech's Atlanta campus.

The Molecular Evolution Core Laboratory is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and technically adept specialist to join our team. This position is integral to our mission of leading advancements in molecular evolution, genome analysis, and directed evolution research. Job Summary

Provide support services in the operation and maintenance of an academic or research laboratory to include performing analyses; setup, operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; and maintaining stock of supplies. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments.
Job Duty 2 -
Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records.
Job Duty 3 -
Setup laboratory media/equipment for demonstrations.
Job Duty 4 -
May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment.
Job Duty 5 -
Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests.
Job Duty 6 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Responsibilities

This unique role offers the chance to dive into the world of oligonucleotide synthesis, high-throughput sequencing, and genome analysis, providing vital support to a variety of research projects within the Molecular Evolution Core Laboratory. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic learner eager to absorb new techniques and contribute to the development of innovative research methods. This is a rare opportunity to grow professionally in a cutting-edge research environment, working alongside leading scientists and researchers. Openness to a temporary position with a keen ambition to contribute to long-term projects and the potential to secure a permanent role are essential for this position.

Work includes responsible for the oligo synthesizers to conduct synthesis, purification, and quality control of oligonucleotides. You will employ a range of analytical techniques, such as HPLC, FPLC, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry, with a mindset geared towards optimizing protocols and enhancing process efficiency.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma
Required Experience
Up to two years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Chemistry or the Biological Sciences and two years of experience in a clinical/research lab setting. Strong Chemistry background preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Availability to work each weekday, and ability to meet timelines is required.
SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge in the use of instrumentation and other lab equipment, laboratory processes and procedures specific to assigned lab. Skills in inventory management and the use of specialized computer applications is required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Basic knowledge and understanding of laboratory operations, with a zeal for learning advanced techniques. A proactive problem-solver, eager to explore and enhance scientific processes.

Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

This job requires working knowledge of DNA/RNA analyses, chemical reagent prep and use, oligonucleotide synthesis and purification and the use of instrumentation and other lab equipment. Other specific skills pertinent to assigned lab. Skills in inventory management and working knowledge of LIMS is desirable. Willingness and ability to become AMS certified is also desirable.

Other Information

Salary range: $22 per hour to $30 per hour depending on experience level.
