Georgia Chamber of Commerce is Hiring a Press Secretary Near Atlanta, GA

The Press Secretary is responsible for enhancing the exposure of the Georgia Chamber and its leadership across a variety of platforms. The role is primarily responsible for developing relationships with members of the media and identifying opportunities for interviews and engagement for the Chamber’s CEO and leadership team. Coordinating with the Vice President of External Affairs, the Press Secretary works to ensure that the Chamber’s objectives and achievements are communicated efficiently and effectively to the media.

This role also supports members of the Chamber’s Executive team on various external written materials including opinion pieces, presentations, and speeches.

Additionally, the Press Secretary will serve as the primary writer for the Chamber. Writing copy for a variety of projects including, but not limited to, print, web, mobile, scripts, video, and social media as well as working closely with the events and marketing teams to brainstorm ideas, create concepts, and develop messaging that is on-brand.

Duties/Responsibilities: 

· Serves as a liaison between the Chamber and media throughout the state.

· Develops and maintains a positive public image for the organization through public-facing communication.

· Writes, reviews, and/or distributes press releases and other public-facing communication.

· Responds to information requests from media contacts.

· Establishes and maintains positive relationships with media outlets, investors, and others.

· Arranges interviews for company’s executives and management.

· Supports Chamber’s social media and content strategies to release information on the Chamber and Chamber programs in a manner that will promote a positive public image.

· Write detailed scripts for Georgia Chamber events that include remarks for internal and external participants, audio/visual instructions, and panel materials.

· Create, develop, and review all copy to ensure consistency (e.g., style, tone, quality, etc.) and adherence to brand standards.

· Create high impact copy that is crisp, and easy to digest (short: email, press releases, social media, program/event write ups & teasers long: webpages, blogs, presentation decks, and event/program scripts)

· Create longer form narratives, such as issue-related opinion editorials, for submission to business publications and news outlets.

· Draft scripts for podcast episodes and assist in the editing and distribution of episodes across platforms.

· Collaborate with the creative team to develop creative strategies, concepts and ideas that promote member engagement with the Chamber.

· Collaborate well with cross-functional team members to perform necessary writing, copyediting, and/or proofreading needs.

· Shift between differing brand identities and audiences depending on the project or material needed.

· Deliver copy documents on time and partner effectively with the Vice President of External Affairs to gain approval or feedback.

· Maintain clean and organized files and asset management.

· Move projects forward by following the project management process.

· Balance multiple projects with differing and aggressive timelines, deliverables, and expectations.

· Execute other job-related projects as required.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

· Extensive knowledge of public relations principles and strategies.

· Excellent written communication skills with a proven ability to write in a journalistic style that is customary for external publications.

· Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with media contacts and outlets.

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience: 

· Bachelor’s degree in public relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field required.

· Two years of related experience required.

Physical Requirements: 

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

· Ability to work in downtown Atlanta office 2 days / week after 90-day probationary period.

· Ability to travel to event locations throughout Georgia, occasional overnight travel with advance notice.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $53,000.00 per year
