Job Overview
The Curriculum Transformation Specialist for Georgetown's Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) is a newly-formed position bridging SFS to the university's innovation unit, The Red House/Baker Trust for Transformational Learning, and has responsibility for the expansion of the university's efforts for initiating structural, strategic curricular change to address racial injustices and systemic, global inequalities.
The Curriculum Transformation Specialist will be integral in supporting SFS to innovate and restructure undergraduate studies for years to come. The Curriculum Transformation Specialist will work directly with the Vice Dean for Undergraduate Affairs in initiating, facilitating and supporting curricular initiatives within the SFS undergraduate program. The SFS is the oldest international affairs school in the U.S., founded more than 100 years ago with a bold mission to foster peace and stability through global education. We are dedicated to making sure that what we teach and how we teach it are as relevant to the next century as it was to the last century. We are in need of a motivated and informed individual to support the SFS mission and large-scale university initiatives to develop more inclusive and justice-oriented curricula. The Curriculum Transformation Specialist will be responsible for working with SFS faculty and students and liaising with The Red House in designing, developing, managing, and evaluating curricular projects that aim to reimagine and improve teaching and learning within SFS.
The Curriculum Transformation Specialist will work closely with The Red House and its initiative; the Curriculum Transformation Initiative for Racial Justice (CTI-RJ), which supports school-based transformative education projects. Launched in 2019, the CTI-RJ works with schools and campuses (Medical campus, Law school, Downtown Capitol Campus) to coordinate cross-University curricular changes responsive to racial justice and systemic inequality. The Baker Trust for Transformational Learning provides financial resources, with coordination, professional development, curriculum design and evaluation.
Work Interactions
The Curriculum Transformation Specialist will work closely with the SFS Vice Dean for Undergraduate Affairs, the Director for Curriculum Transformation Initiatives (Red House), and the Vice President for Strategic Education Initiatives. In addition, the SFS Curriculum Transformation Specialist will work closely with SFS faculty, SFS students, other faculty and students involved in CTI-RJ work. These interactions may include but are not limited to:
Supporting new design processes specific to SFS, mentoring student partnership cohorts.
Supporting faculty cohorts, and/or teaching classes.
Working with units across campus such as, but not limited to: SFS DEI Committee SFS Deans' Offices Registrar's Office The CALL Office for Assessment and Decision Support, and Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship
Qualifications
Master's degree
1 to 3 years of relevant experience required, PhD desired in International Affairs or an area of study related to global issues or focused on educational practices in a related discipline - to include, Social Sciences (e.g., Economics, Geography, Political Science) and Humanities (e.g., History, Sociology, Interdisciplinary studies/concentrations), and related fields of Higher Education Studies or Curriculum Design & Development as it pertains to social sciences or humanities
Professional and research interests that include a range of experiences pertaining to: undergraduate program development within International Affairs, inclusive curriculum design (specifically towards diversifying content and assessment approaches), experiential learning, knowledge of undergraduate program structures and processes, and equity and racial justice within teaching and learning
Excellent verbal and written communication skills across modalities, with responsive communication patterns within email, knowledge of Zoom
Ability to work collaboratively with university students, staff, faculty, leadership and external partners
Proven organizational skills: documentation management in Google Drive or equivalent,
detail oriented, and adaptive
Self-motivated goal-setter, with the ability to be responsive and adaptive
Ability to manage workload effectively, prioritizing and multi-tasking across projects
Valued dispositions: curiosity, listening, empathy, collaboration, and resilience
