Georgetown County School District is Hiring a Special Educational Teacher (Resource - LD/Multi-Cat Certified) (24-25 school year) *Qualifies for Rural Incentive Near Georgetown, SC

Job Title: Teacher – Special Education - Resource (LD / Multi-Cat Certified)

**Position eligible for the Rural Incentive - remain at a qualifying school for three (3) years to be eligible to receive a $1,500 incentive**

Supervisor: Principal/Special Education Administrator

Terms of Employment: 190 Days

Qualifications

  • South Carolina Teacher Certification in appropriate area.
  • Degree(s) required and area of major study for an accredited college/university
  • Prior job experience preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the student.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes so that demonstration, instruction, and practice can be developed within the allotted time.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of the students involved in the learning activities.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Diagnoses the learning abilities and disabilities of students on a regular basis. Seeks assistance of district specialists as needed.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrations’ regulations.
  • Instructs pupils in use, care, and safe operation of equipment. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required.
  • Serves as a role model for students.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Works cooperatively with classroom teachers when appropriate.
  • Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of such students.
  • Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or disciplinary problems of each student.
  • Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students.
  • Counsels individuals and groups of students with educational, occupational, and personal problems.
  • Assists students in making realistic assessment of his abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities.
  • Generates an Individual Education Plan at the end of each school year for the coming school year.
  • Attends IEP meetings as deemed necessary and prepares behavioral intervention plans for specified students.
  • Supervisor may assign other related duties as needed.
