Georgetown County School District is Hiring a Physical Education Teacher (BFESCPA / PEDIS) (24-25 School Year) *Qualifies for Rural Incentive Near Georgetown, SC

Job Title: Physical Education Teacher (Brown's Ferry Elementary School for the Creative and Performing Arts & Plantersville Elementary Digital Immersion School)

**Position eligible for the Rural Incentive - remain at a qualifying school for three (3) years to be eligible to receive a $1,500 incentive**

Job Summary:

Creating and implementing flexible strategies in a classroom environment favorable to student learning and personal growth; to promote healthy habits that will serve and motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge for an effective educational foundation in accordance with each student’s ability.


Qualifications:

  • Degree(s) from an accredited college or university
  • South Carolina Teacher Certification in appropriate area
  • Prior job experience preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as district administration may find appropriate and acceptable


Essential Duties:

  • Teaches knowledge and skills utilizing standard courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities
  • Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program
  • Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student, to the extent feasible
  • Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students
  • Assesses accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports to principal, parents, and district as required
  • Maintains attendance records on each student taught as required
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas
  • Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports
  • Participates cooperatively with the principal or designee to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities
  • Selects and requisitions uniforms, equipment, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress
  • Identifies students' needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
  • Cooperates with school administration in providing specialty performing groups for special occasions, PTA meetings, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
  • Supervisor may assign other duties as needed


Other Duties:

Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
