Job Description

Geoff McDonald & Associates is an established and growing Richmond-based, medium-sized law firm with a concentration in Plaintiff's Personal Injury and Workers' Compensation. We are seeking to add an experienced, responsible, energetic and intelligent professional to join our dedicated team of Personal Injury Paralegals in our new Virginia Beach office! 

The right candidate will be enthusiastic, well-organized, proactive and have a strong work ethic! Demonstrated communication and writing skills. Experience in Plaintiff's personal injury law is a bonus.

Our paralegals play a vital role in our cases and work closely with our attorneys and clients; they do not sit on the sidelines, but actively participate in our process.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain consistent and thoughtful client communication to ensure cases stay on track
  • Interview witnesses and law enforcement
  • Submit FOIA requests to various government entities
  • Work with our vendors to order medical/billing records, prepare and finalize demand packages
  • Perform comprehensive review of medical records and bills
  • Document damages, expenses and liens on cases
  • Work with our Staff Legal Nurse to ensure clients are receiving proper medical treatment
  • Scan, name, and file documents in accordance with Firm naming conventions
  • Collect information on lost wages/income
  • Communicate with adjusters, medical providers, attorneys, clients, experts and vendors
  • Work with our internal and external investigators to properly document, examine and preserve evidence
  • Conduct monthly file reviews with the assigned attorney
  • Manage Electronic Case Files within our case management system (SmartAdvocate)

The ideal candidate will be a team player, well organized and capable of successfully handling multiple deadlines at once. In this role it is imperative that you have compassion, empathy and a servant’s heart – our clients deserve nothing less! Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. 

Paralegal experience required. Plaintiff’s Personal Injury experience strongly preferred. College degree preferred, but comparable and demonstrated experience will be considered as well.

Bilingual, Spanish-speaking candidates are encouraged to apply!

This is a full-time, in-office position. 

Hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. We strongly believe in work-life balance!
