Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide relevant Substance Abuse information for class curriculum.
  • Facilitate didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions.
  • Select and recommend new instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse program.
  • Maintain knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse.
  • Maintain a collegian relationship with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations.
  • Complete required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required.
  • Participate in related training for substance abuse.
Qualifications

We would prefer someone who has experience within a correctional setting.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or its equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years of experience working in the counseling or chemical addiction field. A waiver from the Florida Department of Corrections must be submitted, reviewed and approved for this criteria.
    • Associate degree in any unrelated area of study from an accredited academic institution and one (1) year of experience in the counseling or chemical addictions field. A waiver from the Florida Department of Corrections must be submitted, reviewed and approved for this criteria.
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited academic institution in any of the social sciences and six (6) months of experience working in counseling or chemical addictions field.
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any unrelated area of student and one (1) year of professional experience in chemical addiction counseling and/or mental health counseling, or
    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in any unrelated area of study and one (1) year of professional experience in chemical additional counseling and/or mental health counseling, or
    • PhD. from an accredited college or university in chemical addiction counseling and/or mental health counseling, or
    • PhD. from an accredited college or university in any unrelated area of study and one (1) year of professional experience in chemical addiction counseling and/or mental health counseling, or
    • Master's Level Certified Addictions Professional (MCAP), Certified Addiction Professional (CAP), Certified Criminal Justice Addiction Professional (CCJAP), Certified Associate Addiction Professional (CAAP), or Certified Criminal Justice Associate Addiction Professional (CCJAAP).Master's degree from an accredited college or university in any of the social sciences and six (6) months experience in chemical addiction counseling and/or mental health counseling, or

Physical Requirements

In this position, you will frequently have to lift or carry up to 20 lbs. Candidates should also be able to bend, stoop, walk, and stand (31-60% of the time). You will also occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
