The VAS Nurse performs IV starts, phlebotomies, and central line lab draws. Experience with ultrasound-guided IV starts is preferred. Central line dressing changes, accessing and de-accessing implanted ports is also included in the duties. VAS nurses also treat infiltrations and extravasation. VAS nurses give lidocaine, heparin, alteplase, and hyaluronidase. Not involved in infusions. Cares for patients ranging from newborn to elderly.
