Gengras Motors Used Vehicle Buyer

Job Title: Used Vehicle Buyer

Location: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont

Reports to: Pre-owned director

Job Summary: The Used Vehicle Buyer at Gengras Motors plays a vital role in the company's operations by acquiring high-quality used vehicles for resale. This position involves evaluating potential inventory, negotiating with sellers, and ensuring that purchased vehicles meet the company's standards for quality and value. The Used Vehicle Buyer will work closely with various departments to maintain an optimal inventory of used cars, enhancing the company's reputation for quality and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Sourcing and Procurement:

  • Identify potential sources for used vehicles, including auctions, private sellers, trade-ins, and other dealerships.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to determine which vehicles are in demand and offer good value.
  • Negotiate with sellers to acquire vehicles at competitive prices, taking into account market value, condition, and demand.

Vehicle Evaluation:

  • Inspect and evaluate used vehicles to determine their condition, quality, and resale potential.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle history checks to ensure accurate documentation and identify any potential issues.
  • Collaborate with the reconditioning team to assess necessary repairs and improvements to meet company standards.

Inventory Management:

  • Work closely with the Used Car Operations Director to maintain an optimal and diverse inventory of used vehicles.
  • Monitor inventory levels, aging, and turnover rates to optimize profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist in pricing decisions based on market analysis, vehicle condition, and demand trends.

Documentation and Legal Compliance:

  • Ensure all necessary paperwork, including titles, bill of sale, and transfer documents, are accurately completed for each purchased vehicle.
  • Maintain compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to used vehicle purchases and sales.

Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain relationships with sellers, wholesalers, and other sources to secure a consistent supply of high-quality used vehicles.
  • Collaborate with the sales and marketing teams to align inventory with customer preferences and market demand.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Generate regular reports on inventory performance, including sales, turnover rates, and profitability.
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences to make informed purchasing decisions.

Compensation:

· Draw or hourly rate.

· % of front end, back end and doc fee less and loss at time of sale.

· Only paid on retailed cars but loss of wholesale will be applied to %.

· Vacation

Compensation $80,000 to $120,000 annually

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in automotive management or related field is a plus.
  • Several years of experience in purchasing used vehicles, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a good understanding of market values for used cars.
  • Knowledge of automotive mechanics and vehicle conditions to make accurate evaluations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using automotive inventory management software and market analysis tools.
