ABOUT THE CSTEP PROGRAM
The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is a New York State grant funded initiative and sponsored by SUNY Genesee Community College (GCC). The program is designed to support under-represented and/or economically disadvantaged, matriculated students interested in pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers or those requiring pre - licensure. GENERAL FUNCTIONS
The CSTEP Nursing Program Tutor will provide targeted academic one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions while building a sense of community for certain at-risk student populations. The Tutor will work collaboratively with the students primarily in science/nursing courses to facilitate relevant support sessions related to course content, homework, test preparation, projects/papers, midterms, finals and/or licensure exams. This position will also assist in building confidence with study skills and organization. The Tutor may conduct services via office hours or by appointment. The Tutor will work directly with the Director in supporting CSTEP and the College's program efforts.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide individual and/or group tutoring to students in approved content area.
Provide students with clarification of course assignments, lectures, and tests.
Provide tutoring services in an open lab or self-paced setting.
Assist students in the development of study skills, test taking strategies, time management, & organizational skills.
Select and use resource material and/or lab equipment most appropriate to demonstrate study units/workbook assignments.
Participate in developing tutoring resource materials when required.
Attend tutor training sessions as available.
Maintain student tutoring records.
Collaborate with the Director in overseeing group sessions and student progress.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Background
Associate's degree required; Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred.
Experience
A minimum of one (1) year work experience. If degree is not in content area, relevant work experience in related field is required. Experience in a customer facing role required. Experience in K-12 education acceptable, post-secondary tutoring preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to provide quality[SJM1] customer service. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Must demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as the ability to establish and maintain positive learning environments for students and collaborative relationships with colleagues. Incumbent must be mindful of and develop solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically.
Content knowledge in the priority areas of:BIO152 Anatomy & Physiology 1, BIO153 Anatomy & Physiology 2, BIO201 Microbiology and Human Disease, NUR111 Nursing 1, NUR112 Nursing 2, NUR122 Pharmacology for Nurses, NUR211 Nursing 3, NUR212 Nursing 4, NUR230 Professional Issues in Nursing, NUR222 Nursing 5, and NCLEX-RN licensure preparation.

SALARY & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position is a part-time, temporary, grant-funded position in year 3 of 5. Position reports year-round (including summers) and is assigned on a semester basis as needed. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
