GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

The Recruitment and Retention Specialist will be responsible for developing and carrying out recruitment and retention strategies for students considering or enrolled in the Perkins approved programs. Particular attention will focus on the following prospective and current CTE student populations: economically disadvantaged; individuals with disabilities; single parents; displaced homemakers; non-native English speakers; individuals preparing for non-traditional fields by gender; individuals who are homeless; and/or individuals who have aged out of state foster care. We seek candidates who will create a climate that helps attract and is inclusive of all students, including students from historically underrepresented groups and students who have overcome personal challenges. The Specialist will work closely with Tutoring/Academic Support, Admissions, and Student Success Center personnel.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Identify/contact prospective CTE student populations in the GLOW region, including but not limited to: medical, home health, nursing, and other healthcare professionals; corrections/probation/law enforcement professionals; and technology sector professionals.

In conjunction with Student Success Center personnel, identify/support students in the CTE programs with ongoing success planning, advisement, and enrollment information. Emphasis will be placed on health- and technology-related CTE program student populations. Secondary emphasis will focus on corrections/probation/law enforcement student populations.

Initiate intentional outreach and case management actions to assigned Perkins students designated as "at-risk". Partner with appropriate college units (i.e. Tutoring and Academic Support; Counseling Services; Library; Access and Accommodations) to implement individualized support strategies.

Use technology to provide information and guide current/prospective CTE students through the admissions and enrollment/reenrollment processes. Develop appropriate action plans to guide CTE students through their program curriculum and achieve desired career goals.

Collaborate and communicate with CTE program faculty on student referrals.

In conjunction with Career Services personnel and local one stop career center assist CTE students in the pursuit of career goals including: decision making, college choices, and job opportunities using a variety of resources appropriate to the student's needs.

Respond to prospective and current CTE student concerns/problems; refer these students to appropriate college resources as necessary.

Assist CTE students in navigating various software applications required to complete course assignments or college related activities; Provide software application training and assistance to part-time CTE Programs outreach assistants.

Collaborate with other CTE staff to offer events/programming; Coordinate the planning of events and programming.


Job Requirements:


EDUCATION:

Bachelor's or Associate's Degree required. Preference given to candidates who have a degree in education, counseling, or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of three years (or five with an Associate's) full-time experience in an academic or similar setting. Experience in college admissions, financial aid and/or career or academic planning preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability to work effectively with first generation, low income, disabled, and/or economically disadvantaged student populations, while promoting their access to and success in higher education. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence and is mindful of and develops accessibility solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically. Effective verbal and written communication skills required. Excellent customer service skills are required. Must be well organized, resilient, flexible, and be able to work both independently and as a member of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and student information systems, preferred.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Associate Dean of Library and Academic Support Services. The person holding this position must work cooperatively with faculty, Deans of the College, Admissions, Records Office, Career Services, Transfer Center, Tutoring and Academic Support, Student Success Coaches, Online Learning and the Office for Institutional Research.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time, temporary*, Perkins grant-funded, twelve month position. *The Perkins grant is highly likely to be renewed. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are set by the GEA contract. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
