General Atomics and Affiliated Companies is Hiring a Government Affairs and Strategic Communications Near Washington, DC

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
With general supervision, this position is responsible for representing the company on legislative and regulatory affairs and guiding business units and other stakeholders on government policy initiatives that impact Company priorities and pursuits. Monitors progress of legislative and regulatory issues of interest to the company and provides analysis to company stakeholders. Participates in developing strategy approaches to address government policy issues, technology requirements, etc. Maintains contact with government officials and other relevant contacts to influence government policy.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides guidance to business units and P&L's, ISD and other strategic development organizations on government policy initiatives related to the Company's priorities and pursuits.
  • Educates and provides guidance to internal stakeholders on government policy, regulatory and other matters that impact the Company's work initiatives.
  • Supports the Company in ensuring international pursuits align with government processes and requirements.
  • Collaborates with business units and P&L's on potential international opportunities as it relates the Company technology security and foreign policy.
  • Participates in recommending strategies to address technology release/export requirements in the program planning phase and communicate government release and export community feedback and guidance to company stakeholders.
  • Maintains network of government and other relevant contacts through direct engagement, think tank work and other means to influence and shape government policy.
  • Participates in the development of strategic approaches, across the enterprise, for addressing government policy issues.
  • Assists in influencing and shaping the government policy community through direct engagement, think tank work and support communications and marketing. Works closely with marketing and strategic communications to publicize current partnerships
  • Identifies potential strategies for new partnerships to progress company priorities for domestic and international pursuits.
  • Provides initial drafts of documentation to include white papers, talking points, etc. for senior government officials and internal business leaders.
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a Bachelors in Business, International Relations a related field and three or more years of progressively complex experience in security co-operation, technology security and/or foreign policy. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Must demonstrate a general understanding of international relations concepts, techniques and standards and experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts.
  • The ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop solutions to a variety of moderately complex issues;
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings to a variety of audiences;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and guide internal and external contacts;
  • The ability to effectively and efficiently initiate, plan, and manage projects;
  • The ability to represent the company on external projects and strong computer, documentation and presentation skills.
  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work hours and travel as required.
