Gary and Mary West Pace is a rapidly growing and very successful all inclusive senior day center for the fragile elderly.

We are located in San Marcos, CA.

We offer several benefit plans and a great 403B program. We also offer 2 weeks of PTO plus 5 days of sick time.

We are looking for experienced Medical Assistants to join our amazing team.

This a a full time position, Monday through Friday from 8:00AM-4:30PM.

About PACE:

Philanthropists Gary and Mary West founded West Health with the mission of enabling seniors to successfully age in place with access to high-quality, affordable health and support services that preserve and protect their dignity, quality of life, and independence. The Gary and Mary West PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly), affiliated with West Health (www.westhealth.org), is a new non-profit that delivers medical, social, and behavioral services to the frail elderly to the North County of San Diego. This PACE center will be entrepreneurial in nature and will focus on innovations and bringing new processes to the traditional PACE environment.

We're looking for passionate healthcare providers who want to be part of a team dedicated to enable seniors to live in their communities as independently as possible by providing compassionate, comprehensive health and supportive care.


Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant coordinates health care service and assists in providing direct patient care to our clinic patients under the direct supervision of the Physician and/or with the delegation of supervision to a Nurse Practitioner by the physician, and under the direction of the Clinic Nurse Manager. Additionally, this position will be responsible for coordinating laboratory services.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform administrative duties which include greeting patients, maintaining paper and electronic health records, telephone duties including notifying patients of test results, coordination of care, completing forms, making appointments, handling correspondence, scheduling tests and laboratory services, and assisting with areas related to billing and compliance.
  • Perform clinical activities that encompass all patient needs related to the safe and effective delivery of patient care.
  • Proactively assist the Physician/Nurse Practitioner/RN as requested and work within a team approach model that includes multiple departments and roles and includes effective contributions to the creation of a positive patient experience.
  • Receive patients by providing room in a timely manner and obtaining routine vital signs/screenings within the standard protocol for the reason the patient is being seen. Obtain needed information pertinent to the purpose of visit/patient condition and accurately communicate this information in the electronic health record.
  • Perform back office procedures consistent with his/her scope of practice, training, and clinic policies, including routine and chronic care exams.
  • Under the direction of a Physician/Nurse Practitioner/RN, perform minor procedures such as but not limited to; phlebotomy, ear lavage, nebulizer treatments and basic laboratory functions, facilitate sending specimens to outside laboratory, as well as age specific screening tests and record results, such as but not limited to Audiometer and EKG.
  • Take direct responsibility for individual duties related to assigned team, including the tracking of referrals, the maintenance of clean and stocked assigned exam rooms, and assist with maintenance and inventory of medical equipment and supplies including medication and vaccine supply inventory.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and ability to work effectively with people in stressful situations. Communicate to supervisor of any problems that potentially affect efficiency/quality of care provided.
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations, as they pertain to position including; HIPAA, Scope of Practice, accreditation standards, OSHA, and the agency's policies & procedures.
  • Maintain participant schedule for clinic visits, specialty visits, assessments, semiannual and annual assessments.
  • Handle potentially infectious specimens with appropriate bio hazard precautions, and practices universal precautions.
  • Participate in continuing education classes and any required staff and training meetings.
  • Responsible for maintaining professional affiliations and any required certifications.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all participant information.
  • Be open to home care visits.

Education and Certification:

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program required.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I), preferred.
  • Active valid drivers license.
  • Proof of active valid auto insurance.
  • Clean driving record.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Bilingual in english/spanish a plus!

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of documented experience working with a frail or elderly population required.
  • Experience in a long-term care facility or with a community-based geriatric program preferred.
  • Skilled in communicating with participants, their families, and other staff members; ability to establish a helping, trusting relationship with participants.
  • Ability to follow through with instructions and directions provided by supervisor, RN, QAPI coordinator, primary care physician, and/or medical director.
  • Ability to utilize appropriate safety measures when providing care.
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously as part of an interdisciplinary team, the elderly, providers of services, and peers.
  • Must have experience with navigating on a computer.
  • Well organized, dependable, flexible, and resourceful.

Job offers are contingent upon a successful pre-employment drug screen, background check, and health screen. Proof COVID-19 vaccination required. Must have a valid Driver License and proof of auto insurance.
