GENERAL SUMMARY

This internship as a Manufacturing Engineer Intern is designed to provide on-the-job experience by connecting academic learning with real-work application. The objective is to provide the intern with experience that creates for them a competitive advantage in the workplace as they approach the completion of their degree.

This position will focus mainly on leading the execution of key operations initiatives that have been outlined to improve process efficiency and consistency.

S/he will work in accordance to specifications, schedule, and budget limitations established by the Engineering manager and comply with company procedures, documentation, and record keeping practices.

PLANNED PROJECTS

  • Lead the execution of key Operations projects that focus on improving process efficiency and consistency. Such projects may include but are not limited to:
  • Fixture production and cataloguing
  • Assembly instruction development and maintenance
  • End of line inspection instruction development and maintenance
  • Time studies and the operational efficiency of machine designs
  • Standardizing processes (i.e. welding)
  • Documenting clear assembly specifications (i.e. fastener torques, belt tension)
  • Support Product Development projects that require Manufacturing Engineering assistance. These projects may include but are not limited to product and part naming conventions, hardware standardization, the development of work instructions, defining drawing inspection criteria, and appropriate documentation of procured items.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. Preference for strong background in process management and mechanical aptitude. Candidates with previously work experience in construction, equipment operation, and/or have performed metal fabrication and welding are desired.
  2. Maintain the integrity of existing design and production documents, such as bills-of-material, routings, drawings, item master information, and cost information.
  3. Apply sound engineering principles and management techniques in the execution of all activities.
  4. Computer and internet skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  5. Capable of 3D modeling (Solidworks CAD preferred) desired, but not mandatory.
  6. Ability to capture project requirements and communicate project status and results clearly.
  7. Ability to document and simplify complex processes.
  8. Experience with ECN (Engineering Change Notification) process is desired.
  9. Ability to work effectively across an organization as a team player who is willing to take direction, and seek advice.
  10. Self-starter, willing to learn as you go, and has the ability to contribute to a team.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must be an active student at an accredited college or university. Ideally we are seeking students in an Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering degree program, though we will consider students from other, related disciplines. Ideal candidates will be in their junior or senior year. Strong computer skills are a must. Prior intern experience is desired, but not required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation. Ability to write presentations that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to others across the organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Position is required to work in shop, creating prototypes as well as work in the field conducting product demonstrations.

Position is required to work in the office as well as the shop and occasionally visits job sites.
