GAP Solutions, Inc. is Hiring a Research Associate (Part-Time) Near Bethesda, MD

Position Objective: Provide services as a Research Associate in support of the overall functions of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Perinatology Research Branch, DIR/NICHD (PRB) has conducted

translational research on the subjects of normal pregnancy, labor, and pregnancy complications. The results of this research need to be disseminated in the form of publications in biomedical journals. The specific research intersects the disciplines of obstetrics, maternal-fetal medicine, microbiology, immunology, placental pathology, single-cell genomics, and computational biology. An individual with a Master in Public Health (MPH), knowledge of data analysis, communication of results in biomedical journals, and the lifecycle of manuscripts is sought for this Task Order.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce scientific, technical and operational graphics for use in internal and external communications, web.
  • Capture references into EndNote from scientific and medical database 4
  • Utilize EndNote to place in-text citations into the main text, the figure and table legends, and the supplementary materials. 5
  • Produce publication quality, informative graphical representations of images from research studies.
  • Develop reports and provide material to justify the results of evaluating programs and program operations.
  • Participate on publications team on the development and production of annual and quadrennial news publications,
  • Define the type of multimedia needed to create either images, graphics or video and how they will be shared within the scientific community
  • Advise on the most informative images that can be used to circulate within the scientific community.
  • Create multimedia files in accordance with industry standards using a variety of video and image editing software to be posted on scientific multimedia websites including the American Journal of Obstetrics Gynecology, New England Journal of Medicine etc. as well as social media websites like YouTube and Twitter. File formats will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Research all updated multimedia programs and identify the benefits of combining new elements into multimedia files for dissemination.
  • Draft material and methods section with input from scientists who have participated in the research. 2
  • Draft results section with technical direction from the Branch Chief and scientific collaborators. 3
  • Prepare figures and tables for the main body of manuscripts as well as supplementary material
  • Identify key articles and reviews that are relevant to the reports
  • Develop presentations for use by senior leadership to convey program accomplishments and key facts for use for both internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute to overall communication strategy development and implementation.
  • Assist with the preparation of PRB annual reports, project summaries required by NICHD; 1
  • Assist with the preparation of the Site Visit book to be submitted for review by the Board of Scientific Counselors
  • Prepare response to the comments of reviewers with input from investigators
  • Documents, and materials related to the submission of each manuscript and supplementary materials; communications among collaborators and co-authors for the submission and tracking of each manuscript. - Ad-Hoc

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education of Master of Public Health in Health Services Management and Policy, Community and Public Health, or a related discipline.
  • Skilled in Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, WebEx, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), Statistical Analysis System (SAS), and EndNote.
  • Experience writing manuscripts, Institutional Review Board (IRB) amendments and continuing reviews, Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, and Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs).
  • Previous experience with workshop and conference planning, data analysis, and writing.
  • Knowledge of Human Subjects Research Protection, Epidemiological studies, Cohort Studies, and Plain language.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
