Program Coordinator, Center for Social Concerns
Position Summary:
Gannon University seeks to transform lives by creating environments for extraordinary moments and everyday connections that inspire others to become their best selves. The Center for Social Concerns (CSC) animates the University Mission and primary aim of "transforming lives and fostering transformation" through high-impact engagement initiatives and local and global community partnerships that help our students become socially responsible global citizens. The Program Coordinator of the CSC joins a dynamic team seeking to engage and accompany students as they discover and explore their values, passions, and purpose, and as they engage the world around them through service and cultural exploration.
The Program Coordinator will grow and deepen student, employee, and community engagement through the organization of Gannon's annual campus-wide days of service (GIVE Day and Day of Caring) and through the support of community engagement initiatives (including St. Joseph House of Faith in Action programming and supporting co-curricular service). The Program Coordinator will support other CSC events and programs including the Alternative Break Service Trip (ABST) program and advocacy and awareness initiatives (i.e. Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, Fair Trade initiatives, and more), and will contribute to advancing University initiatives and goals through this role. Supporting the holistic development of students will be central to all dimensions of this work, including accompanying students in their personal exploration of values and worldviews.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop, manage, and execute large-scale annual days of local community service for Gannon's Erie and Ruskin campuses (GIVE Day and Day of Caring): a) recruits, facilitates, and mobilizes event task forces including faculty, staff, and students as needed; b) solicits, confirms, and manages community partnerships and projects; c) manages registration and placement processes; d) manages data collection, assessment, and follow-up; e) coordinates the event with the local community and government offices and organizations as needed.
  • In collaboration with the CSC team, support the development, management, implementation, and assessment of CSC community engagement and advocacy and awareness initiatives including: a) support management of the St. Joseph House and the programs/events/partnerships developed and provided there; b) support and manage co-curricular service and community engagement - including serving as a contact point for community partners, collecting community partner needs, managing posting and dissemination/marketing of those needs, managing student/student group service requests, connecting students/student groups to community partners and service opportunities, and assessment of co-curricular service and community engagement; c) support programming and initiatives that connect Gannon students to post-graduate service opportunities; d) support advocacy and awareness initiatives including Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week; e) support other CSC and Gannon community engagement and advocacy and awareness initiatives as assigned.
  • Assist in deepening public impact through Gannon's community engagement initiatives and projects with strategic partners (i.e. Our West Bayfront, Community Schools, and other strategic initiatives). This collaboration will include working closely with both community partners and colleagues in Academic Community Engagement (Service Learning), community/government/external relations (University Advancement), Student Development and Engagement, Career Exploration and Development, and other University departments/units as needed.
  • Alongside the CSC professional staff, collaborate with community engagement leaders on campus to ensure community partner needs are gathered and met appropriately, and help support and coordinate annual community engagement assessment and service reporting.
  • Provide administrative support for CSC programs and the office generally including: a) websites and marketing: support management of the CSC EngageU webpage, assist in management and routine updating of CSC print marketing materials, websites, blogs, social media, and other web platforms, and assist in development of marketing materials for programs and events through Canva and other platforms; b) ABST program: support logistics for the ABST program including travel arrangements, roster management, student payments, program fundraisers, and other logistics; c) other administrative responsibilities: support of other office programming as assigned.
  • Serve as a point of contact for campus partners, external vendors, and community partners related to community engagement initiatives. Collaborate with and serve as a representative for the CSC to key University offices and areas including the Student Experience division, Campus Ministry, University Advancement, and academic departments and administrative/support units in both Erie and Ruskin.
  • Collaborate with the CSC's professional staff on management, advising, and development of the CSC student intern team, specifically around programs/events that the Program Coordinator oversees.
  • Collaborate with and support other student development programs, university initiatives (i.e., supporting orientation/transition/retention programming), and projects as desired/assigned, in particular supporting the work of the Mission Immersion team and related offices/areas including Campus Ministry and community/ government/external relations. Serve on University committees, working groups, and/or taskforces as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate competence around administrative functions for program and office responsibilities, including mastery of various University technology platforms and scheduling appropriate facilities and services for program needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope, responsibilities, and requirements of the job.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree required.
Demonstrated skills in event planning and management of logistics; ability to work well with university faculty, administrators, staff and students as well as local and international community partners to achieve program goals; excellent written and oral communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to set goals and complete projects with a high degree of independence; and competence or willingness to learn traditional and emerging higher education technology platforms and applications (i.e. Microsoft Office applications).
A current valid drivers license and good driving record are required.
Must be able to support and promote the Universitys Mission.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree preferred. One-to-three years of work experience in a higher education or community engagement setting is preferred.
