Painting & Wash Operator

PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES

The Painting & Wash Operator is responsible for applying paint to production plastic parts with the use of a paint booth, hand spray gun, and drying oven.

It is critical that the flow rate, mixture, and coverage is properly followed and executed. Parts must meet manufacturing specification when completed.

The Painting & Wash Operator also masks the parts prior to painting and operates & maintains a wash station to remove dust from parts prior to delivering parts into a cleanroom for the next steps in manufacturing.

SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Process :

  • Apply paint to plastic parts according to daily manufacturing schedule.
  • Uniformly apply wet paints, using care to avoid over spraying in order to obtain a smooth, covered and even surface free from runs and thin spots, etc.
  • Prepare and mix paints and coatings to proper consistency and viscosity, using thinners, solvents, additives and agitators as required.

Select pressures, nozzles, oven temperatures, cure times.

  • Regulate the temperature and air circulation in drying oven.
  • Prepare and mask surfaces that are not to be coated.
  • Check the flow and viscosity of the paint or solution.
  • Check product for flaws, bubbles, clean edges, and imperfections.
  • Operate wash station equipment to clean plastic parts to remove light dust.
  • Fill baskets of parts and load into automated wash station equipment.
  • Visually and mechanically check finished painted items as required by Galvion quality inspection specifications.
  • Clean and maintain spray application equipment, booths, filters, protective clothing, and equipment according to established practices.

Ensure required painting and safety supplies are on hand.

  • Clean and maintain wash station equipment and ensure required supplies are on hand.
  • Perform accurate documentation of work and quality controls as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

People :

  • Maintain safety and 5S program in work area.
  • Maintain work schedule and complete parts painting schedule on-time, and within quality specifications.
  • Maintain open, positive communication with Team Lead and others.

Performance :

  • Ensure that all duties are performed in a timely manner consistent with applicable quality requirements, safety guidelines, and applicable procedures.
  • Ensure the proper movement of finished painted parts, on time, to inspection or wash station or next manufacturing step.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements

  • 5 years of hand spray gun, wet painting experience.
  • 5 years of cleaning and maintaining spray paint equipment, booths, and ovens.
  • Experience following safety procedures in painting operations.
  • Position requires a person who is meticulous and quality conscious; motivated and creative problem solver.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fast learner with excellent time management skills.
  • Possess creative problem solving skill with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be adaptable to rapidly shifting priorities and testing schedules.

Work environment ( include physical requirements)

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Use of eye protection required.
  • Overtime will occasionally be required.
