Gallatin County, MT is Hiring a Fairgrounds Maintenance Worker Near Bozeman, MT

This position is located in the Gallatin County Fairgrounds and is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, improvements and custodial care of the fairgrounds including all buildings, arenas, grounds, equipment and parking lots. This position reports to the Fairgrounds Director through the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and does not supervise other county personnel.

Each duty listed below makes up at least 20% of the job, and all other functions are included in Other Duties as Assigned. All duties below are essential functions unless otherwise indicated.

FACILITIES MAINTENANCE

  • Help maintain major and ancillary facilities systems of the County Fairgrounds (e.g., heating, electrical, plumbing, security, etc.) by diagnosing or calling to attention mechanical, operational, and structural problems or hazards and completing or coordinating repairs with guidance from the Fairgrounds Director and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Provides custodial and landscaping services for the County Fairgrounds by conducting routine cleaning, painting, mowing, snow removal, and other services.
  • Help set-up, clean up, and other maintenance services for Fairground events by ensuring that terms and conditions of individual rental agreements regarding facilities are met.
  • Administers preventative maintenance of facilities, equipment and tools by monitoring facilities, routinely inspecting tools and equipment, and coordinating preventative maintenance activities (e.g., performance testing, cleaning/oiling, sharpening, etc.) to ensure safety and effectiveness as directed by the Director and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Assists Fairgrounds event renters with equipment set up and facility details. Helping address issues in a timely manner and referring complex or contentious issues to the Fairground Director.
  • Recommends contract services to ensure quality, timely, and cost-effective maintenance services in appropriate situations.
  • Help monitor contract personnel and assists with various projects related details under the guidance of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor. This includes participating in special projects, occasionally filling in for other employees, participating in ongoing training, and a variety of other functions as needed. If the County Commission proclaims a local emergency due to an actual or threatened disaster such as an earthquake, fire, riot, flood, etc., County employees may be required to provide services during the emergency and for a subsequent period of assessment and recovery.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This work requires a willingness to be a part of a team and to learn on the job. Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heating, carpentry; construction; automotive and small engine mechanics is a plus, but there is opportunity to learn on the job to round out skills that you do not currently possess. Experience in power tools, heavy equipment, and maintenance vehicles is also a plus, but can be taught as part of the on-the-job skill building. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record. This position must be able to follow directions to completion and apply critical thinking when necessary. Position must have the ability to work nights and some weekends; work with the public; maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Position must be willing to work alone or with others and must be reliable and responsible.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and one year of related work experience (1-2 years). On the job training is available.

Licenses and Certifications: Position must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state of Montana or attain a Montana driver's license within six months of hire and be insurable under the County's liability policies.

As a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal history check and background investigation.
