The Payroll & Benefits Coordinator provides support to the Payroll and Benefits Manager with daily payroll, and benefits functions. This position provides administrative support for the Payroll and Benefits Management department. Specifically, the Payroll & Benefits Coordinator will process weekly payroll and benefits data, ensuring compliance standards are met.
Requirements
We are searching for a candidate with:

  • Associate degree in business administration or related field required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of payroll and benefits experience is required. 5 years of related experience is preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, payroll practices, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws 
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus Strong written and verbal communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities
A typical day may include:

  • Process weekly payroll transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAL policies 
  • Investigate and resolve employee compensation, payroll and HRIS data input errors 
  • Respond to worker’s compensation, FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) and disability claims. Communicate and assist employees with necessary paperwork and information 
  • Coordinate and assist reasonable accommodation requests within HR 
  • Respond to all employment and unemployment verifications 
  • Generate routine and specific reports for union contributions and union dues 
  • Maintain employee leave of absence, disability, and worker’s compensation files 
  • Audit and review monthly benefit bills for accuracy 

Other duties as assigned
Benefits of Working With Us

  • Salary for New York City Based Applicants: $35.00 - $40.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and in keeping with local legislation).

  • Day shifts, generally 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
