FUTRON INCORPORATED is Hiring an Estimator Near Wilmington, NC

Salary negotiable with experience!!!

I. General Summary:

The Construction Estimator is responsible for all aspects of bidding and buying out of a project including but not limited to labor, time and materials requirements in order to
determine the overall cost of projects. The role is responsible for increasing profitability and productivity through comprehensive cost estimating. Determining job take-offs to accurately calculate job cost as well as negotiating with subcontractors are fundamental skill set required to perform this role effectively.

II. Authority/Clearance:
Authority for signing of contracts and modifications to contracts will be delegated in the proposal submitted for the contract. Approve expenditures that are not related to an assigned project up to $500.00. Related to assigned projects, the Construction Estimator has the following authority:

  • To make decisions regarding scope, cost, price, time and schedule, quality communications.
  • Facilitate meetings
  • Represent Futron for negotiating contracts, subcontracts, change orders, and purchase orders
  • Approve any additional equipment from original contract

III. Principles, Duties, and Responsibilities:
The Construction Estimator analyzes and interprets documents related to terms,
drawings, specifications, clarifications, and requirements for each project and prepare
take-offs, estimates, bid proposals, POs and contracts. Activities may include the following:

  • Provide take-offs from project documents
  • Negotiate subcontracts and purchase orders
  • Task Order and contract proposal estimating
  • Prepare construction schedules
  • Review submittals, plans, and specifications
  • Correspond with subcontractors, suppliers and owners via verbal and written documentation
  • Ensure proper Job Documentation is being prepared, submitted and filed
  • Keep higher management informed of project status
  • Prepare, maintain and update project budgets
  • Assist in change order negotiations if needed
  • Assist in the preparation of subcontractor "scope of work" portions of the subcontracts
  • Prepare relevant and reliable forecasts
  • Assist in the resolution of technical and/or vendor/partner issues
  • Bid preparation, and site visits for new jobs
  • Solicit bids from subcontractors and material suppliers and do estimates/takeoffs for proposed projects
  • Prepare subcontracts and purchase orders for start-up

IV. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Accounting
  • Computer skills
  • Blueprint reading
  • Ability to lead, train, and motivate staff at all levels
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years estimating experience or 3 years estimating experience
  • Basic foundation in Project Management methodologies
  • Manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines successfully
  • Gathering, accessing, and integrating information.
  • Decision making
  • Facilitate meetings
  • Identify critical success factors and risks for assigned projects
  • Negotiate and resolve conflicts
  • US Citizens, Non-Felons
  • Ability to pass a limited federal background investigation
  • Construction knowledge of all phases of general construction activities
  • Mathematical aptitude
  • A good knowledge of the construction trades and experience in the construction industry
  • Knowledge of EM-385 is preferred.

V. Software Proficiency Desired:

  • MS Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Estimating Software (Sage Timberline)
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Various Graphics programs
  • Office equipment
  • Fax Machine
  • Cell Phone
  • Broadband Internet access including router and LAN
  • Copier
  • Scanner

VI. Working Conditions:

  • Business Office and Construction Site
  • Must be able to climb ladders and lift equipment, may require work overhead and on lifts.
  • Must be able to handle criticism and remain calm in and effective in highly stressful situations. Keep emotions in check, control anger and avoid aggressive behavior even in very difficult situations.
  • Requires persistence in the face of obstacles and face challenges.
