Qualifications/Requirements:

Education and Licensure:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Valid and current state licensure as a Physical Therapist.
  • Certification by the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE).

Clinical Experience:

  • Prior experience working as a Physical Therapist, preferably in a skilled nursing facility or similar setting.
  • Experience in geriatric care, addressing functional limitations, mobility challenges, and rehabilitation needs.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency in conducting comprehensive assessments to evaluate patients' functional abilities, strength, balance, gait, and range of motion.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans to address patients' goals and promote functional independence.
  • Familiarity with therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, and modalities to improve strength, mobility, and pain management.
  • Understanding of fall prevention strategies and interventions to enhance balance and reduce the risk of injuries.
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and orthotics to facilitate safe and independent mobility.
  • Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists, to coordinate and integrate care.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Empathy and patience to work with individuals who may have physical challenges or limitations.
  • A collaborative approach to working with other healthcare professionals and effectively communicating treatment plans and progress.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Adherence to legal, ethical, and regulatory guidelines for physical therapy practice.
  • Competence in maintaining accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.

Continuing Education:

  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education activities to stay updated with advancements in the field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods to evaluate and treat patients.
  • Physical strength and dexterity to facilitate therapeutic activities, assist with transfers, and use equipment.
  • Capacity to lift and position patients as needed during therapy sessions.
