Frontera Fund is Hiring a Communications Manager Near Allen, TX

The Communications Manager will oversee Frontera Fund’s media relations, email communication, media materials drafting, social media management, and communication strategies for new projects, events, and initiatives. They will also be responsible for responding to crises or challenging situations quickly and professionally, attending speaking engagements, ensuring all fund materials have consistent and positive messaging and branding, conducting quality control on all communications, developing relationships, and working with media outlets and other organizations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about social and reproductive justice movements, possess exceptional writing skills, and deeply understand traditional and digital media. The Communications Manager will collaborate with the Organizing Manager and Executive Director to ensure consistent messaging and timely communication regarding abortion and reproductive justice issues. Frontera Fund is an abortion fund committed to supporting the Rio Grande Valley. As Communications Manager, you will work to shift the culture across reproductive, queer, economic, and immigrant justice.

Essential Job Functions

Communications and Media Management (Approximately 75% of the position)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with traditional media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Draft press releases, news articles, op-eds, and other written materials for media distribution.
  • Coordinate media interviews and prepare spokespersons for media engagements.
  • Manage email communication, including newsletters and updates to supporters.
  • Monitor media coverage, track media mentions, and report on media outreach efforts.
  • Collaborate with the team to identify media opportunities and messaging strategies.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and implement a messaging and earned media strategy.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in all written communications.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy across multiple platforms (e.g., TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Create engaging content, including graphics, videos, and copy aligned with Frontera Fund's voice and messaging.
  • Manage social media and content calendars, including scheduling and publishing posts.
  • Monitor social media channels, respond to inquiries, and maintain professional engagement.
  • Analyze social media metrics, adjust strategies for better performance, and track KPIs.
  • Integrate social media efforts with other initiatives, stay updated on trends, and utilize analytics tools.
  • Manage media budgets, liaise with other organizations, and maintain stakeholder relationships.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies for new projects, events, and initiatives.
  • Create comprehensive campaigns to raise awareness and promote services to target demographics.
  • Supervise marketing and communication materials, establish internal communication processes, and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Execute digital fundraising and engagement campaigns across email, website, and social media.

Administrative (approximately 15% of the position)
  • Organize and maintain all communications materials in a shared drive.
  • Develop weekly and monthly reports for the Executive Director on media and social media metrics.

Baseline (approximately 10% of the position)
  • Attend regular check-ins with the supervisor.
  • Participate in gatherings, summits, retreats, and staff meetings, and participate in required virtual staff communications.
  • Update professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities offered by Frontera Fund, maintaining networks, and participating in professional organizations relevant to your role.
  • Other responsibilities as necessary to support a growing Fund.

Qualifications
While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences relevant to the Communications Manager role:

Required
  • Residency: Must reside in Texas.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in media management, preferably within a nonprofit or social justice context.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of social media trends, tools, and platforms.
  • Proficiency in traditional media relations, including drafting press releases, news articles, and op-eds.
  • Understands the power of media in shaping and shifting the narrative around abortion justice and reproductive rights.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with a track record of effective project management.
  • Proven experience in creating and curating content, managing online communities, executing successful social media campaigns, and writing for traditional media.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain organized systems and follow through on tasks.
  • Capable of effectively prioritizing and executing multiple, sometimes time-sensitive tasks.
  • A strong passion for and knowledge of social and reproductive justice movements, particularly about abortion.
  • Shares Frontera Fund's commitment to abortion access and full reproductive health care for all, with a desire to champion these causes, particularly within the social and traditional media sectors.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to working within the complex and ever-changing landscape of abortion access and reproductive justice.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, creative, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team.
  • A commitment to co-create and maintain a growing remote organizational culture that fosters deep collaboration, trust, and coordination across functional areas; openness to giving and receiving feedback and a commitment to practicing this regularly.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish is required for effective communication.

Preferred
  • Past Frontera Fund caller who has received support from our helpline
  • 3 years of experience in media management, preferably in a nonprofit or social justice context.
  • 1 year of experience with abortion funds as staff, volunteer, or board
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to Reproductive Justice
  • Commitment to anti-racist values

Work Environment

  • Virtual, remote office. To facilitate virtual office culture and work sharing, you must be able to participate in online virtual communications, including email, video conferencing, and other online tools.
  • This position is full-time, with the employee’s regular full-time schedule to be approved by the supervisor. Regular hours must include attendance during core business hours from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Central Time, Monday through Friday. Occasional work on nights and weekends as needed.
  • Some work at off-site locations may be required; Frontera Fund aims for accessibility in any off-site location that we control, but some may not be fully accessible.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. Employees are regularly required to communicate effectively via computer, via phone, and in person.
  • This role requires frequent sitting.
