Bilingual Outreach Specialist

Director of Outreach and Prevention

Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 6pm (Must be flexible - may vary due to events)

SUMMARY:

The Friends For All Bilingual Outreach Specialist will perform a variety of tasks related to HIV prevention and stigma reduction. This position interacts with the community on a regular basis and excels at engagement and empathy.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:

This position will mostly focus on serving the Latino population in Shelby County. Four major outreach strategies will be used as part of your tasks:

  • Mpowerment Program:
    • Oversee and recruit Core Group to participate in monthly meetings for MPowerment planning and event implementation/production.
    • Oversee and actively recruit individuals to participate in Mpowerment activities via social media platforms, Haven events and outreach activities, and maintain a consistent Mpowerment presence in targeted communities.
    • Assure accurate, complete and timely data entry and reporting of all relevant program and consumer data into CAREWare, Evalweb and other reporting systems as requested by the funders and your supervisor.
    • Oversee timely reporting to all funders, in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Analyst and Director of Prevention.
  • Counseling, Testing, and Referral:
    • Oversee the proper provision of HIV/STI testing and counseling to outreach/prevention client
    • Ensure grant goals and objectives are met for Counseling, Testing and Referral (CTR)
    • Oversee and make appropriate referrals to community resources for all persons supported
    • Oversee and make appropriate referrals to Friends For Life support services for all persons supported
    • Track receipt of referrals for all persons supported
    • Oversee and maintain timely, proper documentation of services in writing and in CAREWare/Evaluation Web and other databases as warranted
    • Oversee and maintain accurate up-to-date records of all clients tested and meet Tennessee state reporting requirements for positive/reactive test results
    • Oversee the provision of risk reduction and adherence counseling
  • PrEP Navigation:
    • Oversee the provision of information about PrEP and PrEP services to meet grant requirements each month
    • Ensure the linkage of grant required number of clients to PrEP provider for prescription
    • Once PrEP has been prescribed, continue to oversee and provide support for the individual. This support will include:
      • Follow-up discussions including any barriers client may face in continuing accessing and taking PrEP
      • Support regarding selection of and scheduling with appropriate PrEP provider
  • Mobile Unit:
    • Occasionally drive mobile unit vehicle (special license not required).
    • Test individuals for HIV, Hepatitis C and possibly STI’s
    • Counsel clients as to the best service for their care
    • Work with CMA and Nurse Practitioner to give clients care
    • Setup unit for use at events, organizations and other areas in Shelby County


ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regular and predictable punctuality and attendance is required
  • Return all calls, emails and text in a timely manner.
  • Participate in weekly or biweekly coaching sessions with supervisor
  • Complete Performance Reviews and SMART GOALS
  • Participate in All Staff Meetings, In-Service Days and Mandatory Trainings
  • May need to travel in personal vehicle to meet staff, clients, or community partners at FFA locations or at other locations to meet the needs of the position
  • Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or GED (bachelors preferred).
  • Two years’ previous experience working with HIV/AIDS population preferred
  • Good strategic/critical thinker, self-starter, goal-oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to operate with purpose, urgency and accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • - with particular attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to work with a diverse client population
  • Strong relationship-builder both with team and clients (internal and external)
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Maintain confidential information and adhere to all Friends For All policies and procedures regarding sharing of financial information and Protected Health Information (PHI).


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must have a valid State Driver’s License, provide proof of automobile insurance coverage to employer at all times and have an automobile to be used daily.

OSHA CATEGORY:

This position performs tasks that may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Training will be provided per Standard Operating Procedure for your area of operation. All FFA employees are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series.
