Job Summary

The Static Equipment Inspector reports to the Lead of Mechanical Engineering acting as a technical steward for static equipment inspection and repair recommendations including all associated mechanical inspection documentation.

The Static Equipment Inspector applies general knowledge of LNG production, transportation, storage and loading; including health, safety, maintenance, operations, governmental regulations and associated codes and standards relative to mechanical integrity. Practices and performs in-depth knowledge of Static Equipment and Mechanical Systems, national codes, standards and regulations, and their implementation when performing mechanical inspection.

Location/Travel Information

The Static Equipment Inspector is based at the Quintana LQF Terminal with frequent travel to off-site locations as required. The position requires the incumbent to hold a valid, unexpired driver license at all times in order to perform the essential functions of the job.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Prioritizes, plans, and executes static equipment inspection within the respective assigned area team for life cycle management based on service, design, condition, jurisdictional requirements, temporary repairs and equipment replacements, Turnaround (TAR) dates, and inspection history.
  • Documents static inspection records, findings, and recommendations in Inspection Data Management System (IDMS). Completes all required documentation and interprets and applies industry and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practice (RAGAGEP) codes and specifications. Develops, revises, and maintains comprehensive inspection procedures, applicable guidelines, and work instructions.
  • Executes generated static inspection requirements for projects within assigned units or areas and coordinates inspection requirements for larger-scale projects in collaboration with Operations, Engineering and Maintenance, and Reliability departments. Coordinates services of contract inspectors/non-destructive examination technicians.
  • Provides static equiment inspection guidance to troubleshooting and applies engineering knowledge in planning and coordinating work for the Maintenance Department.
  • Understands critical process variables that affect static equipment reliability, and integrity, providing inspection recommendations based on findings, options, and risk assessments in conjunction with the Subject Matter Expert of Static Equipment.
  • Calculates remaining life of static equipment, based on wall thickness readings corrosion rates.
  • Provides technical support, by understanding and interpreting codes, standards and regulations that are equipment related.
  • Develops working relationships with other department personnel within the plant in order to seek out opportunities that will add value to each job completed.
  • Reinforces awareness of safety and environmental incidents through frequent job observations by talking to personnel working in the plant. Ensure the development or collecting information in support of permit requirements as assigned.

Education, Certification, and Experience

Minimum (Required) Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum seven (7) years of static equipment inspection experience in an operating industrial facility
  • A valid driver’s license is required upon hire.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor's or associate degree in Mechanical Technology, Corrosion Technology, Welding
  • Technology, or Non-Destructive Technology (NDT) diploma
  • Completed API 510, 570, 653, 571, 580, and 581 certifications
  • Completed AWS/SW certifications
  • Completed ANST Level II (UTT, RTFI, MT, PT) certifications
  • Ten (10) years of experience as a static equipment inspector in an operating industrial facility; working with industry-related codes.
  • Experience with Corrosion Monitoring-related software

  • Manage multiple activities in timely fashion and with a high degree of accuracy, able to meet work deadlines.
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Computer savvy including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, Project and PowerPoint.

Work Environment

  • Operates in a professional office environment within or outside of an industrial plant environment.
  • Uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers w/scanner and fax, and filing cabinets.
  • Wear all necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions.
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Not necessarily protected from weather and temperature changes. Possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy weather conditions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and electrical circuits.
  • Exposure to constant, or intermittent sounds of a pitch level sufficient to cause marked distraction.

  • Perform work at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt, and piping surfaces, while climbing and working in confined spaces.
  • Required to talk or hear.
  • Stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Drive to other Company work locations as required.
  • Move throughout all areas of each office/site location and facilities.
  • Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift.
  • Walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 20 lbs. without assistance.
  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to enter confined spaces.
  • May be required to work at elevated heights.
