Frederica Academy is Hiring a Director of Development and Alumni Relations Near Saint Simons Island, GA

Position Summary:

The Frederica Academy Director of Development is responsible for providing strategic, tactical, and administrative support to the Advancement Office and is directly responsible for the management of the school’s donor database system and correspondence operation. This position, working in collaboration with the Associate Head of School and Chief Advancement Officer, the Creative Director, and the Special Events and Projects Coordinator, coordinates all operational fundraising activities including donor stewardship, annual appeals, grant proposals, donor reports, stakeholder programs (including Alumni Relations), and contributes to the efficient day-to-day operations of the Advancement Office.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Development Coordinator is required to perform a range of duties including, but not limited to:

  • Works closely with Associate Head of School and Chief Advancement Officer in the development and execution of all fundraising initiatives and priorities.
  • Activates, administers, and manages the school’s donor management platform (FA is in the process of transitioning from Donor Connect to Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT; goal is to be operational for 2024-2025 school year) including daily gift recording and acknowledgment according to standards set by the development field and accounting guidelines. Maintains related activities such as donor recognition lists, pledge reminders, etc.
  • Expands and maintains the overall constituency in the donor database. Works with prospect research in management of confidential records and all pertinent information. Maintains and generates development and donor appeals, correspondence, reports, donor recognition lists, and mailing lists.
  • Works closely with the school's business office to reconcile reports on a monthly and yearly basis or as requested.
  • Develops and coordinates grant proposals in coordination with Chief Advancement Officer.
  • Provides logistical assistance for all development events, including Derby Day, the Annual Fund Benefield Society Reception, the Annual Fund Oyster Roast, Booster Club Golf Tournament, and other school community events in partnership with the Special Events and Projects Coordinator.
  • Develops and manages a relevant Alumni Relations program, with special focus on young alumni.
  • Performs general clerical and administrative Development duties as needed; other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Strong technical skills required. Donor software program experience a must; Raiser’s Edge experience highly valued. Position also requires proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace programs.
  • Excellent written, editorial, and creative skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously and prioritize to meet project deadlines of the school’s programs, practices, and procedures.
  • Initiative, problem solving skills, and ability to work independently or as a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and keep several projects moving simultaneously, while prioritizing work to meet deadlines (may require flexible hours when needed).
  • Thoughtful and skilled interpersonal skills with a keen sense of discretion and integrity. A warm and welcoming telephone and office manner; a friendly and upbeat personality and genuine interest in working with people.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English, Public Relations, or Business with experience in communications, marketing, or related fields.
  • Three-five years development experience, preferably in an independent school and/or non-profit organization.

Position Details: The position is a full-time, twelve-month position reporting to the Associate Head of School and Chief Advancement Officer. The Development Director will work normal school hours and will be entitled to two weeks of paid vacation and school holidays. In limited circumstances, he or she may be required to work extended hours or part of a weekend when it involves an Advancement Office sponsored event or activity (e.g. Derby Day).
