NOW HIRING: Health Educator (Healthy Food Access)

The Health Educator contributes to the overall improvement in the health and wellness of Central Ohioans to promote, maintain, and improve individual and community health by assisting individuals and communities in adopting healthy behaviors. Serves as a resource to individuals, other professionals, and the community in identifying and training on health education programs within Community Engagement and Health Promotion.

Duties Include:

  • Develop operational plans and policies necessary to achieve health education objectives and services.
  • Utilize data to identify community needs for use in training and education on program interventions that can be implemented, monitored, and evaluated designed to encourage healthy lifestyles, policies, and environments.
  • Align and coordinate health education materials and resources with community health needs assessments and other public health surveys.
  • Maintain databases, mailing lists, telephone networks, and other information to facilitate the functioning of health education programs.
  • Prepare and distribute health education materials, including reports, bulletins, and visual aids such as photographs, and posters.
  • Build relationships with community partners to leverage funding opportunities, manage in-kind donations to programs, and disseminate resources to local communities.
  • Utilizes appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, lifestyles, and physical abilities.
  • This position focuses on providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of Franklin County Public Health.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health education, community planning, nutrition, science, or related field is required (Master’s degree preferred).
  • At least two to three (2-3) years of directly related experience (nutrition, healthy living, education, public health, food access, dietetics, program management) required.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification strongly preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of normal business hours; some evening and weekend hours required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable through FCPH’s provider.

Hiring Wage: $23.09/hour - $26.56/hour. This is a non-exempt position.

Franklin County Board of Health was established in October 1919 as a result of the Great Influenza, the most devastating pandemic flu on record. The authority of any health department in the State of Ohio is granted by law and is specifically detailed in the Ohio Revised Code.
