Juvenile Intervention Specialist
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:

STARTING SALARY:
$28.68 p/h. Position is subject to 180-day probationary period.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Corrections, Behavioral Science, or other human services field and ONE (1) year of experience working with juveniles or adults in a corrections, mental health or related human service capacity.
· OR Three (3) years of a combination of education and experience. Experience must account for at least two of the 3 years.
· Must be 21 years old.
· Employee will be working in a maximum security 24-hour facility which will require the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. May be scheduled or mandated to work up to 16 hours per day with little to no prior notice. Assigned shifts may be subject to change.
· Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, in order to be considered, candidates must successfully complete:

4. Interview
5. Background Investigation
6. Drug Test
7. Fitness for Duty exam
Candidates who do not successfully complete who do not successfully complete the Diana Screen assessments cannot reapply for a position in the JDF.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Juvenile Intervention Specialist (JIS or JI Specialist) is responsible for maintaining safety, security, custodial care, and discipline within the Juvenile Intervention Center for juvenile offenders and young adult offenders assigned to living units while awaiting trial and/or placement. The JI Specialist oversees the daily activities of the residential units, including but not limited to behavior, safety, meals, school, recreation, work, and other activities within the assigned areas. **Juvenile Intervention Specialist can be assigned to any unit on any shift, 24/7/365**.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervises, directs, and monitors juvenile and adult alleged offenders detained in a maximum-security facility.
2. Determines appropriate sanctions and incentives to modify resident behavior according to established guidelines and Behavior Management Program procedures.
3. Maintains safety and security of residents in assigned residential /functional areas with special attention to their physical whereabouts, health and emotional well-being.
4. Responds to emergencies and prevents escapes or incidents.
1. Monitors, documents, and escorts residents throughout the facility including school, visitation, recreation, medical area, etc.
2. Maintains radio communication with Central Control; provides security checks on all residents following policy; documents and reports disruptive or disturbing behavior and security breaches.
3. Oversees and ensures all residents are fed and clothed, all living areas are clean and that proper hygiene and infection control practices are maintained.
4. May strip search residents for contraband; ensures residents are properly showered and clothed.
5. Employs approved physical defensive tactics and restraint techniques to subdue and restrain residents and perform interventions if necessary.
Diffuses disruptive/destructive behaviors through crisis intervention and verbal counseling whenever possible. Uses physical intervention techniques to gain control if required.
Facilitate and lead healthy, pro-social group discussions with the assistance of structured curricula.
Performs other duties as assigned.
