Francis Marion University is Hiring a Communications Coordinator (24-63) Near Florence, SC

Francis Marion University is seeking applicants for a Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator works within the University Communications Office and reports to the Vice President of Communications. The position also works collaboratively with other university departments. The Communications Coordinator assists with the development and production of content for official university publications including FMU Focus, recruitment materials, press releases, and electronic messaging for a wide variety of internal and external audiences. The position involves a great deal of writing for the mass media and serves as a conduit of information to mass media entities as needed. The position also serves as a photographer for university events, disseminates information to the media and FMU’s website and social media channels. The position also assists with content generation and creation for social media. The position is involved in increasing brand visibility for the university through external channels and may require some work outside of normal business hours including nights and weekends.

The ideal candidate should exhibit excellent writing, organizational and time management skills, and be creative. The ideal candidate should also be able to multi-task among numerous time-sensitive projects. The ideal candidate should have a strong desire to continually learn about communications and best practices within the industry.

The ideal candidate’s skill set should include, but is not limited to:

  • Excellent creative writing skills, overall communication abilities, and proven ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in multiple social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Experience in photography and photo editing.

State Requirements: A high school diploma and relevant experience in business management, public administration, or administrative services or a bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required work experience.

FMU Preference:  a bachelor’s degree in marketing, mass communications, public relations, or English or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with experience in writing is preferred. Candidates should have at least 2 years’ experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or writing, etc., and have developed skills in one or more of the following content production areas: news writing, copy writing, photography, photo editing, social media content production and management. The successful candidate will have a track record of easily adapting to new technologies and skill sets. Creativity, attention to detail, high-level communication abilities, and the ability to multi-task across platforms and among projects of a highly time sensitive nature are highly valued.

State Classification: Administrative Coordinator (AH10)

Band/Level: 5/2

Salary: Will be commensurate with experience and State pay band.

Normal Working Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm Monday through Friday. Occasionally work hours will vary depending on assignments. Summer hours will vary.
