Fox Valley Special Recreation Association is Hiring a Program Assistant Near Batavia, IL

JOB PURPOSE:

To assist the Program Leader with assigned duties during general programs and special events.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS (FLSA)

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Have an interest and commitment in working with individuals with disabilities.
  2. Must have a basic knowledge and understanding of recreation programming for individuals with disabilities.
  3. Must demonstrate an ability to work effectively with FVSRA staff and individuals who have a disability.
  4. Must be highly motivated and enthusiastic to provide a quality experience for those participating in the program(s).
  5. Must demonstrate dependability, promptness, and punctuality.
  6. Be safety conscious.
  7. Must display confidence, maturity, and flexibility.
  8. Must have the ability to engage in activities requiring physical exertion.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Adheres to all FVSRA safety policies and procedures and the FVSRA Policy Manual.
  2. Must be able to respond to needs of individuals with disabilities.
  3. Ability to follow directions and carryout such instructions in a safe and appropriate manner.
  4. Communicate regularly with FVSRA Program Leaders regarding any program-related concerns and programmatic questions.
  5. Supervise participants of varying ages in FVSRA programs, encourage participation and promote appropriate interactions.
  6. Assist and supervise up to four participants, including awareness of dietary needs, medications, allergies, seizures, behavioral management needs, wheelchair assistance and daily living skills.
  7. Communicate clearly with small groups of people and individuals.
  8. Must be able to take initiative and help the Program Leader with program preparations such as setting up, greeting participants/parents/guardians, collecting lunches.
  9. Attend orientation, meetings, in-services, trainings.
  10. Immediately reports all accidents and unsafe conditions to the Program Leader, as well as cooperate and assist in incident investigations.
  11. Provide timely responses to phone calls, voicemails, and written materials, whether received by mail, facsimile, text, and e-mails.
  12. Treats public concerns with the utmost and courteous attention.
  13. Proactively respond to situations and communicate all incidents to the Support Staff Manager.
  14. Must be able to work under stressful situations.
  15. Must be able to respond to needs of individuals with disabilities.
  16. Understand simple oral and written instructions related to his or her assignment.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The Program Assistant must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be able to perform the following functions:

  1. Gather, load, transport and set-up equipment and supplies for activities.
  2. Physically assist individuals in wheelchairs by pushing, pulling, or providing stabilization on unknown terrain.
  3. Physically transfer individuals from wheelchair to chair, into and out of vehicles, from pool deck into pool, in washroom facilities, etc.
  4. Active participation in programs.
  5. Lift and carry as much as 50 pounds for as long a distance as 300 feet.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee may be exposed to elements when loading and unloading participants or when assisting with outdoor functions. Most activities are performed indoors; these conditions include lighting and temperature.
