Fort Mill School District - York 4 is Hiring a Behavior Interventionist Near FORT MILL, SC

Qualifications: 1. Master’s Degree in Behavior Analysis, or within a year of

completing a Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis; or a Master’s Degree in Psychology or Education

2. Board Certified Behavior Analysist (BCBA) certification, or

eligibility and willingness to work toward BCBA certification

Reports to: Executive Director of Special Services

Job Goal: To provide leadership in the development and maintenance of social services for children and their caregivers to enhance their educational experience.

Consultation/Intervention Responsibilities and Skills

  1. Provides support, consultation and direct intervention to children and families in the area of social skills development, behavior management, and parent education.
  2. Provides leadership to school staff in designing remediation plans for students with academic and behavior problems.
  3. Establishes rapport and communicates effectively with students as evidenced by comprehensive assessment or therapeutic information/intervention.
  4. Communicates effectively with parents/teachers regarding their child/student’s learning and behavioral strengths, weaknesses, and needs.
  5. Facilitates communication and coordination of services between school, home, and various community agencies (e.g., Community Mental Health, Juvenile Justice, Head Start, Social Services, and other Health Agencies).
  6. Serves as liaison between the Office of Special Services and various school personnel.
  7. Consults and provides support to staff and students in school crisis situations, such as abuse and neglect cases, deaths, traumatic incidents and extreme family problems.
  8. Provides consultation and training to teachers and teacher assistants in the areas of social skills, behavior management, and working with parents.

Assessment Responsibilities and Skills

  1. Assists school personnel and parents in identifying and referring children who may require special services.
  2. Utilizes assessment techniques based on best professional practices regarding administration, scoring, and interpretation.
  3. Gathers background information about children through interview, observation, and review of records, etc.
  4. Communicates clearly in both written and verbal form assessment information that is relevant in addressing the specific referral concerns, generating appropriate interventions, and determining the eligibility for services.
  5. Works cooperatively with the multi-disciplinary team to interpret assessment results, understands the needs of the student, and plans appropriate interventions.
  6. Completes all appropriate written paperwork within guidelines specified by the Director of Special Services and district administrators.

Professional Activities Responsibilities and Skills

  1. Demonstrates ethical behavior, including respecting confidentiality.
  2. Is punctual for meetings, keeps appointments, and follows up on commitments.
  3. Works effectively as a student service team member in sharing responsibility for managing cases, collection of data, writing reports, and maintaining records as required by federal, state and district guidelines.
  4. Demonstrates knowledge of federal, state and district laws and regulations governing special education.
  5. Educates district, staff, parents, and/or community agency representatives regarding issues relevant to special education (e.g., policies and procedures, best practices, new trends and research) through staff in-services, presentations, training sessions, and/or meetings.
  6. Engages in ongoing professional growth activities. (e.g., attending relevant conventions/workshops, graduate coursework, belonging to professional organizations, reading professional literature, or publishing articles.)
  7. Communicates with parents and district staff, as well as community agency representatives in a professional and clear manner.
  8. Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Services and/or the school principal or designee.

Terms of Employment

190-day contract; Compensation based on FMSD Teacher Schedule; 7.5 hours/day, 5 days/week; Exempt Level.
