FORT MASON CENTER FOR ARTS & CULTURE (FMCAC)

FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN, BUILDING TRADES

OVERVIEW:
Facilities Maintenance Technicians support an environment of continual improvement through professionalism, innovation, and hard work. The Facilities Team believes strongly in taking responsibility and ownership of the facilities and systems we operate and maintain on our historic 13-acre campus.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Preserves and maintains FMCAC’s National Historic Landmark-status facilities by exercising consistent care, caution, and attention to detail.
  • Supports the daily operations and maintenance of FMCAC buildings, piers, grounds and equipment by performing troubleshooting, on-demand and preventive maintenance on the following facility components:
    • Mechanical: heating and cooling systems, boiler systems, and fire sprinklers
    • Plumbing: repair/replace toilets, faucets, sink, and water fountains
    • Electrical: repair/replace broken switches/outlets, lighting fixtures, and lightbulbs
    • Carpentry: repair/replace wood framing, furniture, cabinetry, interior and exterior doors and related hardware, drywall, window glass, and interior and exterior painting
  • Demonstrates proficiency in selecting proper methods of maintenance and repair and the required tools and materials.
  • Operates and maintains woodworking and metalworking machinery such as table saw, circular saw, drill press, hand tools, and welder (preferred, not required).
  • Analyzes and adheres to plans, specifications, manuals, and work orders, as well as other written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Works independently while obtaining approval when required.
  • Maintains an acute sense of quality and safety within one’s work practices.
  • Utilizes exceptional interpersonal and communication skills while interacting with FMCAC staff, clients, visitors, contractors, vendors, and other service providers.

SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the FMCAC Groundskeeper’s recycling program and other waste removal procedures on an occasional basis.
  • Supports the Event Team in the set-up and break-down of meeting rooms and event venues on an occasional basis.
  • Responds proactively to campus-wide event changes, requests, issues, and emergencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Continuing education or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum four (4) year's experience in facility maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of building systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to be versatile and flexible.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Present a positive, professional image.
  • Must be self-motivated and customer service-oriented.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Demonstrated ability to lift at least fifty (50) pounds safely.
  • Ability to climb and work safely at various heights utilizing ladders, scaffolds, catwalks, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
  • Ability to use tools to perform facilities maintenance and other work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position may occasionally supervise on-call temporary labor.

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE:

  • $27 per hour, competitive benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, and paid time off.
  • Flexible weekday/weekend schedule – day and/or night hours available.
