Purpose:
To collect past due loan payments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works open and closed accounts as assigned by the VP Consumer Lending & Collections, maintains a work record of progress for internal review and follow-up.
  • Writes collection letters and notices. Have approved by VP Consumer Lending & Collections any new letters that have not previously been sent.
  • Turns phone routes, maintaining a log of such calls and action. Ensures follow-up work to resolve past due accounts is completed in a timely manner.
  • Assists VP Consumer Lending & Collections and Recovery Officer in placing collateral accounts for repossession and repossessing collateral. Assists the Collection Manager in document preparation regarding the repossessions.
  • Recommends to the VP Consumer Lending & Collections, accounts considered a loss for charge off. (Special circumstance accounts.)
  • Ensures posting of payments to loans that are delinquent, i.e., share to loan transfers, and prepares vouchers when necessary to permit this.
  • Makes adjustments to loan payments when payments have been misapplied to accounts, researching account histories and when necessary to adjust.
  • Makes field calls when necessary to make contact with the member to resolve past due accounts. This will be done with the Credit Union auto when it is available.
  • Preparing accounts for legal action with the VP Consumer Lending & Collections approval and instruction when necessary. This includes small claims, notice of rights, bankruptcies (proof of claims), repossessions, etc.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists VP Consumer Lending & Collections in preparing reports when necessary.
  • Photocopies/ scan letters, files and other documentation of work in order to preserve record of such files.
  • Filing of any Collection Department forms or papers as may be necessary.
  • Prepares certified mail and assures return receipt of such mail is filed.
  • Work non-sufficient fund items when assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Must comply with the Federal Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering & Customer Identification Policy (BSA), the OFAC Policy and the Identity Theft Policy.

Education and Training:
  • High School diploma.
  • On an annual basis is required to complete mandatory Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC and Red Flag Identity Theft training.
Prior Experience:
  • 1-12 months of similar or related experience.
Interpersonal Skills:
Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
Other Special Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to explain and discuss sensitive subjects.
  • Ability to use telephone in collection work and to work the staff and the public by telephone and in person.
  • Assertive and willing to do field collection calls.
Physical Demands:
The need for physical stamina is low to moderate.
Working Conditions:
Minimal adverse working conditions. Some fluctuations in temperature experienced in office setting. May need to work beyond normal working hours, pending organization needs.
