Forsyth County is Hiring a Project Engineer I Near Cumming, GA

The purpose of this classification is to provide technical engineering support for County infrastructure and departmental operations. The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
 
Assists in the planning, development, and design of County infrastructure projects: develops preliminary/final plans and designs using CAD and other engineering/drafting tools; develops engineering specifications for project construction based on programming assessment, design concepts, fundamental engineering principles, and approved preliminary plan; calculates cost estimates and identifies resources needed for projects; provides technical assistance to project managers and contracts officers throughout the project.
 
Provides technical engineering support to department: conducts and/or reviews modeling, planning, and engineering studies in support of project analysis and design: maintains County’s comprehensive water model; produces computer-aided designs and as-built drawings for infrastructure; prepares reports detailing the quantitative analysis performed and concluding recommendations.
 
Reviews the work of contracted architects, engineers, surveyors, County staff and other project personnel; confers with contractors to make all design modifications necessary to conform with regulatory and project requirements; approves the designs as appropriate. 
 
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, plan review submittal forms, engineer’s letters, permits, or other documents.
 
Assists the Water System Engineer with the review and approval of submissions for land disturbance permits, road construction, final plats from development community, prepares review comments when appropriate. 
 
Conducts field visits as needed; coordinates with inspectors and maintenance staff; operates a motor vehicle to conduct work activities.
 
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, building plans, permit applications, site plans, engineering drawings, specifications, engineer’s letters, complaints, architectural drawings, plan revisions, photographs, industry reports, product information, trade journals, technical reports/articles, street maps, codes, commentaries, ordinances, regulations, standards, policies, procedures, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
 
Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, geographical information system (GIS), e-mail, Internet, or other computer programs.
 
Operates a variety of equipment and tools associated with work activities, which may include a calculator, general office equipment, camera, engineering scale, or measuring devices.
 
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, County officials, inspectors, contractors, architects, engineers, utility companies, local/state/federal agencies, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
 
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards; reviews new codes and changes to existing codes; maintains an awareness of new methods, materials, trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends seminars, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate.
 
Assists with sale of water meters in accordance with established policy. Assists with sewer reservation agreements in accordance with established policy.
 
 
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
 
Assists the public at front counter with various issues.
 
Performs general/clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, typing documents, making copies, sending/receiving faxes, filing documentation, or processing incoming/outgoing mail.
 
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
 
Performs other related duties as required.
 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or a related field required; previous design or technical planning experience in civil engineering projects is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Certification as an Engineer-In-Training or the ability to obtain certification within one year. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
