Forsyth County is Hiring a GIS Analyst Near Cumming, GA

The purpose of this classification is to develop and maintain the geographic information system (GIS) computerized mapping database, analyze geographic data, perform GIS computerized mapping functions, and provide technical services and support.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Operates and maintains geographic information system (GIS); creates, maintains, and updates data in GIS database; queries databases for various analytical information.
Creates and manages datasets; designs and edits geographical databases; creates and maintains edit controls on changes to data sets; identifies and traps errors and potential errors within datasets; provides feedback to database administrator.
Performs mapping functions; performs graphic editing, line cleaning, topology building, and database updating; converts datasets from other formats; converts map data to digital format using GIS software; digitizes hardcopy materials and information; processes GIS data for maps.
Analyzes complex geographic data; conducts analysis of datasets and databases; produces digital statistics.
Assists in coordinating aspects of departmental projects; assists with project management and achievement of objectives.
Provides technical support for department projects; defines and documents processes; designs databases; conducts advanced GIS analysis and modeling.
Coordinates custom GIS software interface and macro development, including Intranet applications.
Develops workflow operator instructional manuals; provides data translation support.
Creates and produces various maps or other products; produces hardcopy plots; provides digitized products to third parties; provides digitized/hard-copy products to the public; produces various reports and plans.
Provides information and technical assistance regarding mapping issues or related issues; provides information, researches problems, and initiates problem resolution.
Provides technical support to system users; instructs staff members on use of GIS software and other software applications.
Collects data for projects using global position system (GPS), imagery, or other methods; verifies and updates information; identifies relevant available data sources; installs survey control points at designated locations.
Performs long-range and sub-area planning functions; serves as key staff member in development of sub-area plans, amendments to County code, and comprehensive plan revisions; collects, reviews, and analyzes population, housing, and other socio-economic data; prepares reports and develops policy recommendations relating to long range work program.
Conducts research of maps, legal/court records, computer databases, Internet sites, hardcopy materials, or other sources as needed.
Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, data agreements, project worksheets, maps, charts, analysis reports, billing statements, instructional manuals, or other documents.
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, data requests, data agreements, project worksheets, demographic statistics, tax bills, maps, aerial photographs, plats, plots, site plans, planning charts/documents, historical documents, technical guides, textbooks, manuals, directories, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Operates various equipment associated with work activities; operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; operates/utilizes a variety of equipment/tools such as a printer, large format plotter, digitizer, global position system (GPS) receiver, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, or telephone.
Maintains a working knowledge of a variety of computer operating systems and software programs associated with work activities, which may include word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, photo imaging, geographical information system (GIS), mapping, programming, utilities, research, e-mail, Internet, or other computer programs.
Assists in coordinating daily work activities of GIS technicians; provides training and direction; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with staff members, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, system users, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new technologies, equipment, trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends conferences, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs general/clerical tasks, which may include copying maps and other documents, sending/receiving faxes, filing documentation, or processing incoming/outgoing mail.
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geographical Information Systems, Computer Science, or closely related field; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training involving geographical information system operations and computerized mapping, with experience in specialized area/department of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
