Forsyth County is Hiring a Community Outreach Specialist, Litter Program Near Cumming, GA

The purpose of this classification is to coordinate public education, outreach, and community relations to promote awareness of the Litter Program, events, and operations. Employees in this classification will function as a liaison to various community organizations and will be responsible for coordinating and conducting a training component related to operations. Program responsibilities and specific job duties will vary in accordance with the needs of the assigned department.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
 
Provides information to the public regarding departmental activities: promotes departmental programs, projects and facilities; keeps the public informed about departmental operations, programs, services, activities, and issues; responds to inquiries or comments from the public, answers general questions, resolves problems/complaints, or refers questions to appropriate individual/department; and provides/publishes agendas, notices, and other information in compliance with Open Records and Open Meetings requirements and legislation.
 
Prepares flyers, pamphlets, brochures, and training materials for use in educational programs and public awareness activities; distributes educational materials to the public; writes articles, newsletters, and other informational materials; creates slides, films, audio/video tapes, website information, and other presentation materials; and coordinates printing projects. 
Develops and presents educational and informational workshops for civic groups, schools, volunteers, and the public, to include citizen academies, safety training and awareness, environmental issues, etc.: identifies and schedules speakers; develops and maintains presentation materials; and coordinates arrangements for facilities and resources. 
Recruits, trains, and oversees volunteers that participate in departmental activities and operations. 
 
Serves as a liaison to civic groups, neighborhood associations, schools, and the public: attends meetings, serves on committees, and makes presentations as needed; participates on review committees, policy committees, safety committees, or other committees; represents the department at community events.
 
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, codes, regulations; conducts research and maintains an awareness of new issues, methods, equipment, trends and advances in the profession; reads updates and other professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; participates in continuing education activities; attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
 
Monitors inventory levels of supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new or replacement items.
 
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems; responds to requests for service or assistance.
 
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
 
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, equipment operating manuals, procedures, handbooks, reference materials, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
 
Operates a personal computer and other general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.
 
Assignment to Solid Waste & Recycling (litter program) may include the following additional duties:
Responds to litter complaints received via 311, or the litter hotline. Coordinates litter removal activities with all participating entities. Maintains detailed records and analysis of all litter reports and removal activities.
 
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
 
Performs other related duties as required.
Associate’s degree in business administration, business management, communications or a related field; supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years of experience in customer service, public speaking, or training; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
