Description

Formation Environmental LLC (Formation) is a rapidly growing consulting firm with offices in Boulder, CO, Sacramento, CA, Calipatria, CA and project offices throughout the U.S. Our multi-disciplinary team provides scientific, technical and strategic expertise in environmental engineering, soil science, water resources, vegetation management and remote sensing.

We are seeking a full-time, detail-oriented professional with a strong background in geochemistry, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline to join our team in Boulder, CO. Projects may require travel to sites with field investigations varying in scope and duration.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be part of multidisciplinary teams comprised of various experience levels. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong skills in the following:

  • Data organization, interpretation, and presentation (e.g., Excel, ArcGIS, Spatial Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, R-Scripting, etc.)
  • Apply the principles of contaminant fate and transport to evaluate contaminant source contributions
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of hydrogeological and geochemical investigations.
  • Analyzing and modeling of geochemical data; preparing interpretive reports; and communicating with clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with industry-standard geochemical software (PHREEQC, Geochemist Workbench, AquaChem, etc.) and an ability to integrate these with reactive transport and mass balance simulation software
  • Database use (e.g., SQL, Access)
  • Evaluation of current and or historical multisource contaminant contributions to the environment at hazardous waste, mining, and/or petrochemical industry sites
  • Knowledge of CERCLA and Natural Resource Damage Assessment regulations
  • Creative and innovative problem solving.

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to:

  • Leadership, organization, and effective communication
  • Collaboration and efficient conduct of assignments to support multidisciplinary project teams
  • Maintaining and upgrading technical knowledge.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following traits:

  • Degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D. preferred) in agronomy, soil science, agricultural engineering, statistics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of practical experience is required.
  • Knowledge of western irrigated agriculture and cropping systems.
  • Knowledge in irrigation management related to water quality, salt, and nitrates.
  • Experience with data processing and statistical analysis using R, Matlab, Systat, SigmaPlot, Python, or similar.
  • Proficient in GIS.
  • Experience in modeling water quality, fate and transport, carbon and/or nitrogen cycling.
  • Experience with report writing.
  • Experience with outreach and education to growers regarding irrigation and nutrient management practices.

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Rules, Formation offers benefits for full time positions. These benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage along with a 401K plan, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, vacation and sick days, and additional optional benefits. The salary range for this position is $80,000 – $115,000 per year, commensurate with education, experience, and ability.

Employment offers are contingent on the results of background checks, including employment history, criminal background, and the Federal Watch List. All background checks will be conducted in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws.
