Food Recovery Network is Hiring a FRV Associate Near Washington, DC

FRN FRV Associate

Location: Hybrid, Washington, DC

Reports to: Operations Manager

Food Recovery Network (FRN), one of the largest student movements fighting food waste and hunger in the U.S., is seeking an Associate to support our Food Recovery Verified (FRV) program and operations. This position will report to the Operations Manager and be responsible for daily program administration, coordination, and operations. This is an ideal position for someone with 1-2 years of experience who can simultaneously manage multiple, detail-oriented projects in a fast-paced environment, exhibits strong communication skills, and is looking to work on a wide variety of projects. 

Priority will be given to candidates with direct experience with an FRN chapter, but all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply. This position is based in Washington, DC, and is expected to be in the downtown office twice a week. Because of the nature of this position, some work may take place outside of FRN’s normal business hours, including travel and support for on-the-ground food recoveries. 

Food Recovery Verified (FRV) is a program of FRN that is designed to support food businesses and event planners to implement custom food recovery programs while showcasing their leadership in sustainability and the fight against hunger. To learn more about FRN, please visit our website.

Responsibilities:

FRV Program Support (60%)

  • Oversee daily management of the FRV Team’s gmail inbox, and ensure correspondence is timely and effective
  • Help schedule external calls with partners, create meeting agendas, and take notes during meetings
  • Oversee FRV food business applications, including: 
    • Monitor and process FRV business applications within 5 business days
    • Send application renewal reminder emails quarterly
    • Track and report on food recovery data
  • Support the FRV team in executing large-scale event work and other special food recovery plans, including:
    • Research and coordinate with hunger-fighting partners
    • Draft food recovery plans, with guidance from the Operations Manager
    • Maintain and update notes in the FRV event tracking spreadsheet
    • Coordinate staff and volunteer travel schedules as needed
    • Draft FRV event reports
    • Assist with deliverable tracking and fulfillment for annual partnerships
  • Provide routine, in-person support for local food recovery efforts in the greater Washington, DC area
  • Assist with maintaining up-to-date FRV data, including: 
    • Update and maintain FRV business and individual contact records in Salesforce 
    • Pull data for grant reports and quarterly metrics review
  • Other tasks as assigned

Operations (15%)

  • Oversee all aspects of shipment and receipt of organizational and programmatic support materials, including but not limited to: chapter care packages, chapter assistant requests, FRV and gleaning event materials, onboarding and offboarding supplies, and office supplies
  • Oversee daily management of FRN’s general Gmail inbox, and ensure correspondence is forwarded to the appropriate team member or responded to timely and effectively
  • Manage in-office needs as appropriate such as mail, deliveries, and shipments
  • Support with administrative tasks to help with ease of operations (i.e. schedule calls, draft materials, input information into Salesforce, etc.)

Program-related Travel (15%)

  • Provide on the ground support in creating and executing food recoveries in communities across the U.S. as needed

Communications (10%)

  • Draft relevant social media posts and other key communications as needed
  • Provide feedback on and refinement of programmatic communications materials
  • Compile stories, testimonials, photos, and/or other material for communications, including highlights of FRV partners and events through social media, blog posts, and funder updates
  • Maintain and refine FRV Resource Hub as appropriate
  • Ensure that FRV portions of the website remain up to date
  • Other tasks as assigned

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented learner who can manage multiple projects at one time
  • Exhibit professionalism and determination 
  • An exceptionally high level of integrity, trust, accountability, and judgment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in real time
  • Able to work as a supportive, involved team member
  • A relationship builder, collaborator, and/or connector
  • Proactive communicator 
  • Have a valid driver’s license 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps for Business
  • Proficiency in Mailchimp and Canva a plus
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM a plus
  • Sense of humor a must

Compensation & Benefits:

The compensation for this position is $50,000/year. Benefits include all paid federal holidays, 8 hours of paid volunteering time, 15 days Paid Time Off (PTO), flexible work schedule, 100% employer paid health insurance for those who live in DC, VA, or MD and professional development opportunities. The ideal candidate would be willing to commit to this position for at least two years.

Location: 

Position is a hybrid model requiring in-person support in Washington, DC 2 days a week. When in-person support is not required, this position can be fulfilled remotely. This position requires a valid driver’s license and comfort operating a motor vehicle around the greater DC metro region. On a case-by-case basis, travel on behalf of FRN will be expected, to be determined with your manager.
