The Position: Position General Summary: The Accounting Specialist assists the Accounting Manager in the maintenance of the general ledger system of Florida Virtual School and is responsible for the proper accounting for all funds. The Accounting Specialist processes properly authorized financial transactions of Florida Virtual School in a timely manner. Essential Position Functions: Maintain and reconcile payroll taxes and payments and comply with all reporting requirements. Reconcile State Board of Administration (SBA) investment account, allocate and record earned interest by fund. Maintain and reconcile Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) deposits and withdrawals against benefit provider reports. Responsible for reconciliation of P-Card payments and posting in general ledger. Responsible for reconciling FLVS bank accounts, and posting fees, payments, and transfers in Workday. Responsible for reconciliation of FLVS Foundation bank account in QuickBooks. Responsible for reporting Global cash balances, by fund each month. Responsible for GL Entry of retiree Cobra payments. Post financial transactions, perform ad hoc reconciliations, prepare and enter routine and complex journal entries, and provide for monthly and year end close out. Monitor the posting of invoices and payments that track accounts receivable. Monitor the liability accounts for proper distribution and reporting. Responsible for daily monitoring and reporting positive pay check files. Oversee and provide support to departments on implementation of new processes or systems. Schedule meetings with internal department representatives to review, research data, train and make necessary determinations. Work with Accounting Manager on monthly and fiscal year activities related to closing out the month and year. Manage and maintain accounting filing system for audit records. Assist outside auditors with required annual audits of FLVS. Perform departmental testing in Workday and makes recommendations for system updates. Assist with handling departmental IT help tickets and Accounts Receivable mailbox. Assist with electronic payment system updates and provides support to internal departments & external customers for its use. This may include creating links for school activities, certifications, employee badges, drug testing fees, and handling refunds and activity reports for sponsors. Assist in preparing CRM reports to create EIB (Enterprise Interface Builder) spreadsheets to record accounts receivable data into the general ledger; and reconciles data between accounting and CRM systems. Assist in processing and recording daily financial transactions from banking transactions to CRM or accounting system. Provide general leadership, guidance, and support to relevant team members to collaborate, give feedback, develop plans, and reach team and individual goals. Create and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) when necessary. Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others. Minimum Requirements: Education/Licensure/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Experience: Three years of experience maintaining a general ledger and full cycle accounting Three years of experience in reconciling balance sheet accounts Government accounting or Florida Public School District experience, preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's): Strong knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, auditing, and financial reporting Ability to interpret and communicate Federal regulations, Florida Statutes, Florida Board of Education Rules, and Department of Education technical/budget bulletins Ability to analyze information and formulate solutions for implementing financial accounting software system Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and Microsoft Office Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data and/or information using established criteria Ability to review, classify, prioritize, and analyze problematic situations Ability to employ innovative problem solving techniques to accomplish objectives CORE COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS: COMMUNICATION SKILLS Clearly and effectively conveys and/or presents information verbally;
