Flourish Initiative, the area’s only voluntary transitional housing program for teens, is looking for the right person to support our youth on the weekends. The ideal applicants are: energetic, trustworthy, empathic, and compassionate. Youth Specialists ensure the house is safe and stable, communicate effectively and understand the setting of boundaries with youth.

Flourish Initiative Youth Specialists will facilitate a safe and stable environment for the residents of Flourish Home by overseeing the day-to-day workings of the house and making sure the individual needs of youth residents are cared for. The Flourish Home will house up to 6 youth between the ages of 16 and 20 who are experiencing homelessness.

This position will be for weekend overnights from 11am-7pm.

Duties

While much of the job at Flourish Home involves being as much as doing, the following is a list of tasks that need to be accomplished daily and throughout the week:

• Serve as an appropriate role model and implement guidelines and discipline as needed to ensure the safety and well-being of all youth in care.
• Work collaboratively with the Flourish Director of Housing and Basic Needs and other staff to ensure residents are active participants in supportive services and are making appropriate strides towards meeting their individual goals.
• Teach, model, and assist youth in learning and practicing independent living skills such as budget shopping, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, resolving conflicts, etc.
• Assist youth as needed with dressing, homework, hygiene, health needs, medication, and any other basic needs.
• Transport youth to school, work, community events, appointments, and other goal-related activities. Complete errands for the Flourish Home.
• Help youth review and comply with all program expectations.
• Complete cleaning, organizational, and basic home maintenance, and improvement tasks to ensure the safe and orderly operations of the Flourish Home.
• Complete required documentation on each resident in a timely fashion.
• Comply with Flourish Initiative Policies and Procedures.
• Participate in Flourish Initiative events.
• Other duties as needed which are relevant to the role of a Youth Specialist.

Schedule & Supervision

• The Overnight Part-Time Youth Specialist Position is Friday-Saturday 11pm to 7am - with the possibility of other PRN shifts.
• All Youth Specialists report to and meet weekly with the Flourish Director of Housing and Basic Needs.
• All Youth Specialists will be required to attend weekly staff meetings and required training as scheduled.
• On-call staff will be available 24 hours a day in case of any serious resident or facility concerns or emergencies.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Missouri Driver’s License
• Ability to pass state and federal background screenings (Application fees covered by Flourish)
• Completion of initial and annual trainings as required (Registration fees covered by Flourish)

Preferred Experience & Skills

• Experience in serving youth and families
• Academic or employment background in social work, psychology, education, or some other field pertaining to positive youth development and trauma-informed care.
• Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and other basic computer technologies
