Florence County Government is Hiring an IT Computer Technician Near Effingham, SC

Under minimum supervision, must be mentally and physically capable of assisting in maintaining the Sheriff’s Office computer network, user accounts, and exchange accounts. Monitors disk usage on file servers and network performance. Must be able to handle virtual storage on EMC SAN environment. Identifies security and virus threats and provides solutions. Provides on-site hardware replacement for servers and desktop PC’s. Monitors and maintains physical and virtual servers running on various platforms including SQL Server, MS Windows Server 2008 and VMware. Coordinates with System Administrator to support telecommunications equipment. Assists in monitoring and maintaining core router and switches. Provides technical assistance to end-users, deploys new equipment and services existing equipment as part of the Information Technology Department. May be required to assist the training of personnel in the use of computer hardware and software. Maintains network in compliance with CJI requirements. Reports to the System Administrator.

Ensures technology is accessible and equipped with current hardware and software. Troubleshoots hardware, software and network operating system. Maintains knowledge of all hardware, software, and the network operating system. 

Provides orientation to new users of existing technology. Trains staff about potential uses of existing technology. Provides recommendations about accessing information and support. 

Maintains current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and resources. Monitors and maintains technology to ensure maximum access. Troubleshoot all technology issues. 

Maintains log and/or list of required repairs and maintenance. Makes recommendations about purchase of technology resources. Researches current and potential resources and services. 

Provides network access to all employees. Installs work stations as needed. Connects and sets up hardware and loads all required software.

Provides network accounts and passwords as required. Monitors security of all technology. Identifies and prepares hardware for disposal when appropriate. Ensures hardware is stripped and secured before disposal. Performs other related duties as required during working hours. 

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, Command Staff, law enforcement personnel, other law enforcement agencies, and vendors, etc.

Makes repairs to computer related equipment as necessary.

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requires an Associate degree in networking, computer science or computer technology supplemented by one to three years of related experience, preferably in a government setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. 

Experience with Windows Power Shell scripting, Microsoft Terminal Services, data archiving, Firewalls, Routers, Windows Server OS required.

Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

 NOTE: Person will be on call every other week and weekends.
